...for a buck to still be carrying headgear. This picture was taken this morning. I suspect he will be dropping his antlers in the next few days.

It's not uncommon, a few will carry into April, and the latest I seen carrying both sides was April 21st...

Saw 2 a couple weeks ago that still had them. We have had a very mild winter here in MN. I think that makes a difference.

A few years ago, I watched, actually I lost count, but it was 7 to 10 bucks, all shooters for me, run across my field and the road in front of me, which is very unusual for me, anyway, but it was late April.
First time, I think I had ever seen that.

Anyway, seeing that many bucks with nice racks, after hunting season, really excited me, and like I said, I practically never see that. But if they still had horns then, I guess it worth the time to hunt sheds later in the spring.

Good time to get outside regardless, i like scouting for spring gobblers too.So if i find a shed or two it's just a little bonus for being out there.

Kinda been studying shed dropping for years and as long as they are healthy and have enough nutrition don't believe weather has much to do with it, some bucks shed early in December and some bucks shed as late as April and that is across the board from region to region north and south, so weather not likely a factor... I've theorized it's genetics and if you ever watched the live webcam "Brownville Pantry" in Maine they had an interview with the family that did the feeding after they shut down the cameras a few weeks ago, and think it's genetics too...
Okay Bearcurve59, what's a "hickory chicken"?...8^)

Yep. It's normal here in western Pa too. Normal meaning, it happens sometimes. I saw a buck breed a doe in mid-March, and he still had his antlers the second week of April.

I think they were all off early in my neck (according to trail cams), but after walking a zillion miles I have not found one. I have to wonder if the pigs eat them like they eat everything else.
