soapcreek, please resize your photos to no longer than 640 on the long side by 480 and repost them. There were too many for me to resize.

Sorry Phil. I posted from my Android. I made them as small as I know how to do. Technology is not my friend.

If you get the app imagesize that should work. I believe it works with Androids.

A number of weeks ago my adult son and I had the idea to forge some knives. We made a coal forge out scap metal I had. Used some old lawnmower blades for the steel and pounded out some knives. These are my first two. Time will tell if the heat treat is good. My son is still working on his. Being retired I have more time to work on mine, plus the equipment is at my place.

Wow! Very nice, the leather work is also outstanding, I guess a humble mower blade has a decent carbon content as well

The mower blades were off commercial JD mowers. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Very nice work.

Very nice. I started my journey using unknown steels. Made some awesome knives. But I soon learned buying known knife steels is the cheapest way to make a awesome knife with known steel and known heat treat. YMMV

Patterned the one knife off this knife. This one is made in China. Just made my own.

Those blades are no doubt a very strong and tough alloy, improved by your forging process

From: soap creek
Date: 26-Mar-24

We're learning as we go. On my second blade, I touched a magnet to it after it came out of the forge. The magnet didn't stick so it was ready for the quench. Learned that off Forged In Fire, a good tip. There is way more I don't know, than what I do know about forging. It's fun though.

Both are very nice! I especially like the antler handled knife. Looks like it sits just right in the hand.
