Rich, I met him at our club's annual Puckerbrush Primitive Gathering back in 2021 if I remember correctly. He was an awful nice guy and I, with a couple of others, helped him set up a small 3-D course for the young archers that came to the gathering. I'm pretty sure he basically retired and moved to CA last year, from Downeast Maine, to be closer to his grandkids. I believe he was honored at our club before his move for all of his workshops and archery help/knowledge. Hope this helps.

I always regret never buying one of his selfbows.

I forgot to mention that back in June 2019 DownEast Magazine interviewed Stim and wrote an article on him. If you Google him you can read the story.

I used to live near Stim when he was a professor at Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY. I had one of his very early bows when he first stated building them. It was a fantastic self bow and I regret trading it in one of my fits of foolishness. I did harvest deer with mine. I also would have to say Stim was one of those people that is a pleasure to know. I would have to say his bows were not of conventional self bow design, but the bows were great shooters and extremely durable.

I would also have to say I if I could find one of his bows in a weight I could handle I would most likely buy it. John
