How many of you practice shooting sitting down? My hunting is done 60 yards off my back deck with a 10+ acre farm to my left and open woods to my right . My land slopes 100 yds away down to 20’ deep ravines that parallel my house - I have set up lanes with brush piles to steer the deer tru and give them comfortable corridors,My shooting setup is basically a large port-a-John made from home depot corrugated plastic roof panels with the shooting sides cut out and shoot thru material applied and/ or removing windows. My target is an little kids red wagon with larger wheels for height and a bale of hay and a paper / cardboard deer attached.I practice sitting down as 90 percent of my shots are taken this way.I practice 25 yds and in instinctive shooting anchored in the corner of mouth.— I also practice shooting by dropping arrows tru out the woods and then come thru shooting at one target using string walking anchored under my chin - mostly just for fun but it has paid off a couple times for deer but mostly more for same game rabbits/squirrels

I practice shooting sitting down, partly because of past necessity and now because I don't/shouldn't be climbing trees anymore at age 76 with prosthetic knees. Killed my last two deer on the stool. No tent blinds for me, just natural foliage situations. In many past years, hunting on public land, with strict tree stand rules, I often had to still hunt, stand, kneel or find a place to sit. Have been carrying stools for years now. Carry pruners and paracord to aid in quick setups. I have a few stools, prefer the Northern Flight stool with three legs that are adjustable for uneven ground. It has a thick padded seat and rotates silently. I have found that sitting down provides an even more stable situation for shooting. At our club, Ojibwa, in WI, we have a large practice range so I can shoot at multiple distances from one spot. And I only shoot broadheads from August on.

Yes, I practice my shooting while sitting downstairs in my basement. I sit on a wooden box and use it from all angles and body positions…….Nimrod

I guess I should have added off the ground. When I was younger I shot out of trees but never really like it as much as ground hunting although I admit better view and better odds.Just too old now for climbing and now dealing with failing eye sight and just trying to hang in there as long as possible and still respect the animals.I really don’t consider my situation as hunting as much as just getting meat for the freezer / you do your best with what your given .

I do it a lot as I turkey hunt with a bow and the way one of my deer stands is positioned I’m forced to shoot sitting down, and I use a ground blind for deer as well.

I practice sitting down alot.

The last 3 deer I killed were shot from a sitting position from this tree. All 3 of the deer were in the red circle when I shot.

My seat in this tree is about 15 feet in the air and the shot is 15 yards.

I have even set up a pop-up blind in my walk-out to shoot sitting in the blind during the later winter. Also useful to check my black-out success. Once I noticed my white gold wedding band was the only thing that could be seen. A dark rubber one replaced that band.

All the time. More than 90 percent of may shots at deer and turkey are from a sitting position, either from a tree stand or a blind.

Just about daily starting in July, I’m a ground hunter and my form feels different sitting down vs standing up with a nice expanded form, everything feels a little more compressed.

From: Jack Whitmrie jr

I do practice sitting down especially this time of year because I hunt turkeys out of blinds. I've taken 100+ deer with a recurve and NEVER shot a deer sitting down, but I mostly hunt from tree stands.

I started shooting while sitting when I acquired my PacSeat. Before that... seldom.

I also do some tuning up from my PacSeat. If you can draw a bow and shoot accurately while sitting, you're not over bowed.

My buddy and I play a game like we did with basketball.

We shoot from anywhere we want. In any position you want. If you make the shot then I have to. It’s kinda fun little game and you get some creative shots.

For many decades I’ve shot while sitting in tree stands and now for the past 5-6 years every shot is taken while sitting, even in practice!

From: tnlonghunter
Date: 05-Mar-24

Frequently. Well, I practice from kneeling and squatting frequently. Pretty much every time I go through my local field archery course, I do at least half the shots from odd angles and positions. It keeps things interesting.

From: Lastmohecken
