OK, I have built "dozens" of box turkey calls from many different wood species, but I just now am trying my hand at making some scratch box calls. My question is if anyone has made these what are you using for the striker?

What material are you using on the box? I have all kinds of slabbed rock that make noise. Thinking about making one myself.

My first couple I've made with a red elm sound box with a Cherry wood striker panel. I'll try using some cherry for a striker block and see what happens. I'll post a pic or two when I get done.

I used cedar to make scratch calls. As far as strikers you should experiment to see what sounds best.
