A new take on an old (Neolithic) design. My first build for 2024. Yew Mollagebet 65" long, brace height 6 1/2 ", 41#@26".

I decided to cut in a shelf; not something that I usually do. The shelf I lined with black dyed sealskin that I got from fellow leatherwaller Codjigger.

Then something I NEVER do.....I cut in finger grooves into the handle. It made for a custom grip and is very comfortable.

The limbs are 1 3/4" mid working limb but narrow to 1/2" at the tips Working limb 16" long and static tip 11" long.

Last one..... I have a Mollegabet design made of black locust and is of near size and draw weight. I may need to do a shoot off to see what shoots best.

Thanks for watching and for comments.

The sapwood on the upper limb had a deep incursion in it and I filled the gap with glue and ebony dust. It appears to be holding well.

I have had good luck using super glue and fine sawdust to fill cracks and knot holes that appear while tillering.

Do you know what the purpose of that limb design was? Do the limb ends make it faster or more forgiving?

Very cool bow...Nicely done sir..

The limb tips are narrow to reduce mass and increase arrow speed. The limb tips do not bend and act as levers that are propelled forward when the bow is shot. Fades and mid limbs remain wide.

I am not sure how efficient the design is compared to other longbow designs but it was fun to build something really different.
