I've been trying to keep busy this winter. This little yew longbow turned out pretty well and is 64" long, 40#@26".

It needed a steam to straighten out one limb and a little twist. It has some character too.

This was the first time I used Trueoil as a finish. Usually I use tung oil or spar varnish.
I really like the finish Trueoil gives.

It looks cool. Nice work with a challenging stave. What I like about Yew is the way it darkens overtime. I made one in 2000, still enjoy shooting it.

Tiny tips with some unknown wood I got in Costa Rica. So small that you can't see the nice figure. String groove is burned in.
Sorry I have no one to take a full draw pic. Will try and get one later.

Ahhh, what this message board needs, to begin with at least, is more yew selfbows. Thank you for this. Love a good yew bow. Love any bow with one-of-a-kind character.
How does it carry? How does it feel while drawn? How's she treat ya? How's she treat an arrow?

Nothing quite like the smoothness of the pull of a yew selbow!
Now this one is done I have a yew Mollegabet in the works.

Very nice character bow. Love it. I have no experience with yew, only working with Osage I’ve cut myself, but maybe someday. Thanks for posting. We need more selfbow postings, regardless of species.

Yew did good. Lots of challenges with that one for sure. It is a special wood. I haven’t worked it yet. I have one yew bow from a trade with DVS Hunter. It is a really smooth full draw.
I agree. Need more Selfbows posted. Thanks for sharing
