I can't resist summer scouting even though I know that come September things will start changing fast.

Chiggers. Ticks and skeeters Thick hot woods

No thanks until fall

Will see who is around out in the bean and alpha fields

Other than walking the field edges and around the ponds I’m done until cooler weather

Hunting season never ends for me, The actual killing part is very brief in comparison to all the other time spent.

Looks like you're getting paid while scouting! Perfect. And on a daily basis.

I started hunting smart a long time ago. I learn my area and where will be in the fall. I don't care where they are now.

went down to the sandbar on our creek and as usual a lot of deer tracks! they love that place! 'bout the extent of my boots on the ground scouting! ANYWAYS i love being in the woods but not busting thru our iowa brush, chiggers and ticks and mosquitos i dont like.

Most all animals have routines that constantly change.

Probably area and locale has more to do with when to scout than anything.

Most of the areas i hunt if i waited till fall to scout, there simply wouldn't be enough time to thoroughly scout, unless you had a lot of free time.

In a bigwoods setting where the deer are frequenting one fall, may not be where they are the next. When i say bigwoods i'm not talking about The "big chunk" on the back 40...i'm talking continuous forest.

So i like to keep tabs on things year round.

An example of that is a gang i ran across driving for deer during firearm. The side they were on is usually pretty decent but for some reason last fall that whole side was devoid of deer or slim pickings at best. They kicked out only one small buck in about a 2 1/2 mile stretch.

I actually wasn't even hunting, i was on my way over the mt to the other side to get a treestand (where the deer were). I had already filled tags earlier.

I had discovered the deer where hanging the backside, and the mt across earlier in the year, long before fall...they had logged over there. Had i waited till fall, may have never had enough time to find that out.

Looks good. Thanks for photos Gaur.

I sometimes scout while sitting on the front porch drinking coffee. Turkeys mule deer and last couple days cow elk passing through here.

It was 54° yesterday AM. Went out with my friend for a few hours. Saw some trails, droppings and some old sign. Acorns starting to fall. My friend built a blind by a big blowdown. Been hunting this area for close to 7 years now. All public but see 1 or 2 guys a year.

I go out when it rains, not so much to scout but to just have a look see. I’ve been hunting the same state land area for 13 years, I have an idea where all the deer move. But my hunting success depends so much on hood white oaks. If they aren’t there the deer won’t be either. So I scout in the late summer to see what areas are hot.

Come on Wudstix. Tell the truth about Texas weather. We only have two seasons here. Summer and Christmas Day.
