I watched his YouTube video on how they modified the limbs to enhance performance. I would be interested to know how that bow shoots as well.

Hill style? Anita Hill? Those limbs look thin. Riser is long. Hardly.

Seems everyone wants to offer a Hill style bow. 'cept when you change the characteristics of a Hill bow to fit your own ideas, it's not a Hill style anymore. No wonder that water is all muddied up... From Hill's "Hunting The Hard Way" pg 91

The bow looks nice but hardly a Hill Style. I guess you can call it whatever you want to sell more bows.

I am starting to lose patience with those that try to tell me something i am looking at is what it clearly isn’t. Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining. Seems this trend is more and more common these days in al aspects of “modern “ life.

His design is very close to the interpretation of Jaap Koppedrayer for an ASL. Jaap's longbow has the same long riser, slight reflex in the handle and slight string follow. In terms of performance this Jaap interpretation of Hill Style bow is the quickest from the ASL I have. PS The key point is "Style" not Hill. Shane is saying it is his interpretation of this design.

When anyone with eyes can see the general shape of a bow used and promoted by Howard Hill, and for decades that bow style of a short riser, narrow deep core limbs and straight limbs (reflex, straight, or string follow) and no curvy sight window or pistol grip has been called a Hill style. Checking out Webster's definition of "style"...you've got to stay true to a particular method or type.
These modern bows are "personal interpretations" of the Hill style. Why don't they just call it a long, straight, flat limb bow?
Because they're trying to cash in on the popularity of the name recognition of the actual style of bow that Hill used and promoted to sell bows of their own ilk. plain and simple as that.

So here are my two cents… I’ve never handled a Great Plains bow, but I appreciate the craftsmanship and online content Shane Unruh puts out there. That said, and as you can tell from the previous posts, his “Hill style,” bow is the culinary equivalent of “meat flavored.” If you’re looking for an ASL, get one that is actually an ASL. Also, avoid locator grips like the plague. They just don’t work with Hill bows. If you just want to try “Hill Style,” because you heard about it on a podcast, and you’re looking for the “latest and greatest” “improvements” to the design, then chances are you aren’t going to enjoy this style of bow. There’s no shame in that, shoot what you want. But, if you want to try an ASL, then find a real one.

Wasn’t there a discussion not to long ago about the term ASL? Personally if the “Hill style” bow wasn’t made by Howard himself it’s a variation of his his idea of an ASL.

Many of the bows that are currently being built and labeled as "Hill style" bows actually have more in common with the American Flatbow design as described by Metz.
It's more evident when you start comparing the percentage of the bow dedicated to riser length, the amount of working limb, the limb width and cross section, etc.

The Great Plains Hill style bow has straight, flat limbs. An ASL, commonly referred to as "Hill Style." The shape of the window part of the riser has no effect other than cosmetic, and the locator grips have, for a very long time, been commonly accepted on Hill style bows.
To answer your question, which was about shooting the bow, not if Great Plains named it correctly, they shoot wonderfully. I have one with the locator grip and I like it a lot. It has less hand shock than many other Hill style bows, and has good performance. It is also a beautiful bow. Mine has a cocobolo riser and cedar veneers over a bamboo core.

It's a "longbow". Probably more of an "American" style than English (for example). It wouldn't hurt to leave Hill out of it all together.

Well ole Howie didn't seem to care eh? Maybe he had a wink in his eye when he said what's written in the caption of above photo;)) He designed and built one heck of a bow ...and for many, a system on how to shoot it. Of course somebody so accomplished is going to be copied. Bastardized versions aplenty, I own some.
Never heard of Howard Hill in my early years yet I was already shooting straight limbed, straight handled bows long before. Went thru a few other designs but that American Semi Longbow is what I have several versions of and found to be the superior bow for me.
A locator grip and even a semi pistol grip on some I saw make me almost cringe. It...it, it just doesn't belong. No offence to anybody, that's just my opinion. If it works for you, that's great. I'd have a hard time adjusting, it would slow me down on getting moving animals. Times are a changing, so it is with bows ...so many out there.
