Damned pittsburgers. That's a kids tree cabin, at best.

Just hit the ground and HUNT!

Hunt: To pursue. To search determinedly.

I could never figure out how that is hunting. But I’m just an old fool what do I know

Is that their land?

Looks like he has a clear shot at where you're standing. How much do you trust this neighbor? It looks like he fully intends to shoot toward your property.

Their intention could also be to hunt that field all night on a full moon night. Happens more than you think.

Well, wait till he runs power to it for his stereo. That and the hotplate and frig, not kidding, I've seen it.

Though guess it falls into the same category has the Ice Castle fish houses on the lakes in MN.

Their having fun, to them, and not breaking the law, so I guess it's their choice, just not my way of enjoying the sport.

I always thought that would feel like sitting in an outhouse with the door open and a weapon in your hand.

I bet people have done that too.

If the people that built the stand built it on their property I don't understand the perceived problem.

From the deer’s perspective, If someone put a big lounge chair in my living room I'd know something was up.

Michigan is covered in them. They come in very handy at times. Some are built to shoot gun or bows from.

They have a purpose for me, or at least they did when my kids were small. You could take your little ones and keep them much warmer and quieter inside, therefore extending your hunting time with them significantly. My son and I doubled on two deer when he was 10…the best day in the woods I’ve ever had and my best hunting memory.

That’s what it’s actually all about for me, spending time with my kids, so box stands serve a purpose for that. Just something to consider for those who dislike them

I hunt with a rifle as well as with a bow and personally, if I had a proper place for a shooting house like that, I'd love to have one. I'd want it on a trailer for easy movement.

Years ago I had a set of friends from Louisiana and they were big duck hunters. I had always hunted flooded timber in hip deep water and without decoys but these guys had a very large blind along a shallow flat with several hundred decoys and among other handy idems, a small grill. They could drive their duck boat under it. If the ducks weren't flying they were cooking ribs and chops and watching ball games on a small TV. Life of Riley, no doubt.

I'd say they're about the same as ice fishing or smelt fishing huts here in Maine.

Out of the weather and comfortable, especially for us old guys :^).

Things and times change. My wife's family moved from Maine to NY in 1953. My mother in law hunted that fall and came across a guy hunting from a tree stand She asked him what he was doing up there. Hunting of course said he. She told him if he did that in Maine they wold laugh him out of the state. Things and times change. bvd

Get yourself a green laser pointer. The beam is highly visible from all directions, and position it to rest the beam about fifteen feet over the top of the stand, into the treeline. If they come to you nicely you can tell them that is the line of fire that endangers you.

Our family built two of them during covid to accomodate a few of the grandpas - both a few years over 80 and we want to keep them hunting. You can park a brand new red cadillac in the woods and if it there long enough the deer will walk right by it. It amazes me. Not my cup of tea - takes a lot of the fun out of hunting, and lose your sense of hearing the deer moving. But - for keeping the elderly in the game why not? I also have friends who have one for bringin out kids that are under 10 years old who can't keep still for more than 2 minutes.

To each his own - I get both sides. Some of the shacks in Wisconsin are so elaborate that believe it or not the state actually had assembly members who were considering taxing the landowners a few years back. I know guys in the UP (Michigan) who hunt out of them and have small WOODSTOVES inside of them. They run a super high 3 inch pipe for the smoke to stay well above the shack. In fact some of them swear that when they burn cedar it attracts the deer. The dry wood heat prevents the windows from fogging like it does when burning propane.

In fact, we should start posting pictures of the most elaborate ones you've seen. There are a few near my house in central Wisconsin that have multiple flights of stairs, a deck, and a grill on the deck!

This is a compelling thread - worthy of conversation. Thanks for starting it.

I have no problem with the stand except where they put it.
