Thieve AND liars, human garbage.

Hope he gets his gear back and they catch the responsible party.

Brady is the US ambassador to the entire world of archery. He deserves our full support.

From: George D. Stout

Break-ins are violations of your privacy, whether or not you paid for your goods or not and it is not acceptable ever. The thief/thieves took things that were not just gifted by sponsors, personal things that had more than just an intrinsic value. I would be looking pretty sick too.

From: White Falcon
Date: 29-Nov-22

What state was he in?

From: Yellah Nocks
Date: 29-Nov-22

Experienced one break in, in my life. I was renting a room from an elderly woman in Salem, Mass. She called me at the school I attended and asked if I could come home right away. Of course I did. I went in, and room by room cleared the place. What I could not clear was the sense of "taint" and immense anger. It is a feeling I wish on no one.

Sad news.

From: Bob Rowlands

Been there done that with $$$ construction tool ripoffs a few times. First reaction is always wanting to square with mofo.

Thieves have to live with themselves. In the long run you answer for your deeds and actions inside you. They don't just 'magically disappear' regardless of how you justify them. Wherever you go, there you are.

From: Runner

There's probably a remarkable number of thieves and even archers who have no clue who Brady is.

From: Supernaut

Brady Ellison is a 31 year old full-time Archer competing Internationally and in the USA. Brady is one of the Worlds most successful recurve archers. He is a 3-time Olympian who competed in the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London and 2016 Rio games, winning Team Silver in London and Rio along with Individual Bronze in Rio. Brady travels extensively competing and representing the USA at World caliber events all year long. He started out in archery with a compound bow but switched to recurve in 2006, with hopes of making the USA Olympic Team. Brady overcame complications from Perthes Disease, which he had as a child, putting off surgery for 9 months so that he could compete in the Beijing Olympics. Brady has always been a fan favorite and is always willing to spend time interacting with fans and spectators.

A quick Google search yielded this nice bio on Brady.

Sounds like the real deal to me.

nasty rotten theives!!!!! ...and the other worst part about it, is the violation you feel! Not to mention, you lose trust in just about everything for some time... pray these criminal(s) get caught!!

Burglars are the absolute scum of the earth. May they rot in hell.

From: limbwalker

Brady "replaced" me on the team, alongside Vic and Butch at the 2008 games. I've known him since he was 16 years old (he's now 34) and I also have met his wife Toja. They are genuinely fine people. Brady was raised by a single mom, who is amazing, and later a stepdad, and he is about as grateful and gracious a little "c" celebrity as you'd ever wish to meet in the world of archery.

Of course most of his gear was customized in one way or another. Setting up a single world class target bow, much less 8-10 or more, is a long, long process. Developing TRUST in any particular competition bow takes months if not years. He and Toja lost a lot more than just some equipment and memorabilia in that break-in. They lost countless hours of time spent selecting, testing and optimizing it all to perform at the top of their sport.

If I were him and Toja, it would be the TIME lost that I would be the most upset about. Things can be replaced. But their time cannot.

Who is Brady? I'm not aware of him or his work, what does he do?

From: George D. Stout
Date: 29-Nov-22

Wow, I didn't know there were folks on here, traditional archers, who didn't have any idea who Brady Ellison is. Well then, you should do a google search perhaps.

From: Mpdh Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

What can the thieves do with this gear?

Seems like anybody they find that might have any interest in it, would ask questions.

This is specialized gear, not everyday bows and arrows.

MP

From: GUTPILEPA
Date: 29-Nov-22

Yea what's so terrible about not knowing who he was I don't

From: fdp
Date: 29-Nov-22

"What can the thieves do with this gear?"...hard to say. Could be something connected to the fact it belonged to Brady, or not.

To lots of people it would be just "everyday bows and arrows" and it could be sold/pawned as such. He mentioned I believe that he had some golfclubs stolen as well, and they are pretty easy for the criminal element to resell/pawn also.

From: Frisky

The cops will contact pawn shops, and we can watch Craigslist and eBay.

What a great shot this man is and to be at top for such a long time is very impressive. I hope the police get his gear back.

From: bodymanbowyer

I don't know who he is. I've always been told, I know it's just my local saying. Those who golf, don't know how to hunt or fish. Sad deal if it's real. I agree with some others above, sounds a bit fishy. JL

From: bodymanbowyer

I had a truck broken into quite a few years ago. Didn't take nothing but the radio. It was an aftermarket great radio. And yeah it's no fun being broken into. Makes you feel really violated. JF

From: limbwalker
Date: 29-Nov-22

I assure you Brady knows how to hunt and fish. Probably better than most here.

I also golf. Love it in fact.

To Assume make an ass out of you and me, or so the saying goes.

From: Bob Rowlands

I think Brady had his gear ripped off by regular old dirtbag thieves. If you have a motive beyond that, state it.

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 29-Nov-22

Never heard of him either but then I don't follow professional archers. Too bad that someone stole his gear but then again it happens to a lot of folks.

From: bodymanbowyer
Date: 29-Nov-22

The saying is just a local fun joke. Golf is for those who don't know how to fish. Don't take it so serious. It's just a fun saying. JF

From: limbwalker

LOL lots of assumptions being made here alright. Pretty high horses too.

Welp, this was all fun. I guess if Brady and Toja shot trad gear we'd all be outraged..

From: Darryl/Deni
Date: 29-Nov-22

Must disagree with the statement that things can be replaced. As a long time law enforcement officer who has seen many hundreds of burglaries I saw physical things replaced but something more is taken when this happens, a feeling of safety in one's home. A sense of violation of the place you live. I hope they catch the person or persons who did this for sure but know the truth of that more was taken than just material things. What is worse is that in the society we have today that in all likely hood even if caught the people responsible will not be held to account for very long at all. I am thankful it was not worse which is all to common today.

From: John Sullins
Date: 29-Nov-22

He needs to give us a list of the items, brands etc. so we can be on the watch for it. If I was him I'd check the pawn shops in nearby towns. Also in what city does he live?

From: Linecutter
Date: 29-Nov-22

Thing is if they Pawn it I doubt it will be in the county he lives in, which is what the police report will cover. Many of these low life's take it a distance to pawn it because they know local official's will mainly look at the local shops for his equipment, if they look at them at all. Brady and friends will more than likely look harder than the local officials do. More so because they are under staffed and his isn't the only case they are probably working. DANNY

I am always amazed by posters who come in the middle of threads and start posting things already posted or ask questions or post comments that have already been answered. I usually read a thread from the beginning if it interests me and I think I might post on it but guess I could be wrong? I hope the authorities can recover some of the stuff.

Whether you know who he is, don’t know who he is, or want to pretend that you don’t know who he is, I think it is sufficient that he is a fellow archer who suffered a theft loss, is obviously distressed about it and is asking for help from the archery community.

The lack of sympathy that some of you exhibited is bad enough. The snide comments and schadenfreude are reprehensible .

I am loathe to imagine imagine the histrionics that we would be subject to if any of the wisea$$es suffered a theft loss.

From: LBshooter

I honestly don't know who he is, and as far as his plea for help, I think it's fine. All he said is he was broken into and things stolen, no info on what type of bows or fishing gear, and unless it has his name on everything it's doubtful he'll see it again. Not sure where he lives and is it rural or urban? the thieves had to know who he was. To take that much gear they had planned it out and had plenty of time to do so. Crackheads take things they can put in their pockets and walk away, it sounds Like Brady may know his thieves and they him. If I were to take anyone's bow here and rub out a name or seriel number prove that's it's yours.

How many BW's look alike etc... Feel sorry for him in that he has had this invasion of his property, but guys, lots of folks get ripped off these days and unfortunately we as a society are immune to it. It's like watching the evening news every night in the Chicago area, 5 shot, 25 shot, 80 shot in one weekend. After a while it's just another number, unfortunately. Maybe it's time for safe rooms for our equipment, other than that it's a crap shoot as to whether your next. Don't advertise on your vehicles that your a hunter, the ducks unlimited sticker is the worse thing you can display on your truck. Might as well say hey scumbags I have Guns!! Archery stickers like the rack of a deer etc,.. Another advertisement of weapons.

From: Bob Rowlands
Date: 30-Nov-22

Rip offs. If you've been through them you know just how frustrating it is, because these guys generally aren't brought to justice. That said they have to live with who they are. There's no getting away from that.

As a retired LEO (detective) thefts were not on the top of the list to investigate when you had assault crimes, homicides and rape cases sitting on your desk. And I had plenty believe me.

The state where I worked required that copies pawn slips for the week were to be delivered to the department the following Monday. I went through them every week not only looking for stolen items but looking at the people that pawned the items in case I needed to speak with them on other cases. I was the only archer on the department so this would have raised a flag for me.

Not down playing the guys loss but sorry to say it is the time we live in. I just bought a car hauler so I can take my Jeep out west this winter and had to buy 7 locks to make sure the trailer, spare tire, loading ramps and rear stabilizing jacks weren't stolen.

It is nice to be able to put this type of notification on an archery site so folks can keep an eye out.

I feel Brady's pain as I have been there. It's not always about the equipment lost but about feeling violated. God bless him and his wife. I don't hate on many people except thieves and scumbags.

If this was a prominent bowhunter, there would have been a huge outcry, but alas, it's just an Olympic archer, nothing special here.

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 30-Nov-22

The same thing would still be taking place as Jon said above. They have no time for it. I had 20 guns stolen 20 years ago. Got no help. It is the time we live in. Has nothing to do with who it is.. I feel bad for him too. Like was said. it is the world we live in. Crack Rules. and so does Fentanyl

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 30-Nov-22

I did have someone show up on my alarm system pics last year trying to get in my archery building. I unloaded the AK with 20 rounds over his head. Had no trouble since. I could have shot him but that would have been trouble for me. I did have the police show up because my neighbor called them I got reprimanded and told the office I would not do it again. LOL.

From: Donut

Thanks to YouTube I've enjoyed watching Brady for quite some time. No matter where in the world he is competing he always gets the sincere applause and respect he completely deserves. Bad things happen to good people...sad but true.

From: Runner
Date: 30-Nov-22

I don't think people need to be made to feel bad for not being as "audibly" broken up about this as some seem to require.

Do y'all go to funerals and judge people for how emotional they appear?

From: pondscum2
Date: 07-Dec-22

top of the line target bows "should" stick out like a sore thumb if someone tries to put them on ebay or any other public site....

From: Yellah Nocks
Date: 08-Dec-22

Side note: if the scum that took the items learns that such belonged to an archery "celebrity," they may do two things....one is sticking the items in a storage unit until the "hot" wears off some. Two is panic and toss it off a bridge(ever hear of "magnet fishing"?), and there is a third possibility...their cousin Zeke kinda likes archery, "let's give this stuff ta him!" Result: hidden in a storage locker, wet, or in Zeke's garage. Likelihood of recovery, sadly slim. In all three cases the limbs will be toast in months. Makes ya crazy mad thinking about it. And for the poster who did not know, Mr Ellison does indeed shoot recurve....like a MACHINE.

From: reddogge

He also owned hunting bows and equipment as he was a big bowhunter too.

From: Kwikdraw

A truly crying shame, and even if he had insurance, it's still a huge loss! Feel for you man, take care and good luck!

From: garnet65
Date: 14-Dec-22

Thanks for the bio and context info, as I was unaware of who Brady Ellison is.

I am not a LEO or detective, but I can't help think it was a targeted heist, and the thieves already know what they're going to do with such specialized, niche loot. Maybe sell it in Europe or some other countries with a robust Olympic archery culture.

It would have been helpful if he gave us some idea where this happened (city, state) etc. so LW'ers in the area could be on the look out.

Getting justice is nice, but getting your life back to where it was before is a good thing too. So I hope he gets that.

Regards, WMM
