What type of glue do you use for tip overlays? Any particular brand you like?

EA40 blends into the limb easier than superglue. I use the blue cap Gorilla superglue at times tho on my bows.

It helps to pre taper your overlay pieces and wipe off any excess.

I've used super glue although I'll be turning to epoxy because the super glue tends to leave a whitish hue that's especially visible on darker tips.

Huntsman epoxy, smooth on, super glues. I prefer the epoxies for reasons mentioned.

I used to use Smooth-On, but now I only use Mas Epoxy with a little bit of West Systems 404 Adhesive Filler added. This combination is used to mount marine hardware to boat structures and is virtually bullet proof. I always sand the mating surfaces with 80 grit sand paper and wipe them down with acetone before gluing. It does not require heat to cure. I also use this combination to glue down decorative grip overlays. Richard

Here it is after some sanding. And a big thanks to Jeff(bodymanbowyer) for the great material he sent me to work with!

I also pre sand my tapper edge to near nothing before glue up. Then put masking tape down where it butts up to the tape. A razor will help if the tape sticks to the overlay. I do let my superglue get slightly tacky before i clamp up then wipe and that gets pushed out.

I used Urac-185 before it disappeared from the market, it was bomb proof. I changed to its replacement Unibond which is good but not Urac. I have used EA-40 and super-glue, all are good.

I have never had superglue fail but haven't used in on very many bows, for some reason I like my other glues better.

My overlays are all on selfbows.

These are osage walnut, osage that I used to reinforce a recurve.
