Folks, what you're seeing here is called a one-hander, shot at 18 yards, at night, at Legend's Range. I pull them all out with one pull. I set up to take deer at 9 yards, so this is twice my usual shot distance. Why bother continuing on with practice? I'm not going miss, so what's the point?

Got lucky ??

From: Frisky
Date: 05-Aug-22

There's no luck involved. This is the boring usual. I think I'll have to start wearing a blindfold when I shoot. I took my second to last deer, only able to see it's legs, because my netting pulled my hat down over my eyes when I hit full draw.

Joe

From: B.T.

That's why we shoot 3D targets in the woods at unknown distances. It's not so easy and lots of fun.

From: bowhunt

I heard from reliable sources at the Legend Range (Or in your case Legend in my own Mind Range) that you shot like easily way over 100 arrows and they were scattered all over the place. Some were even in the cieling and others were bouncing off of the floor and archers were clearing out in fear of being struck by one of the many wild shots flying all over creation. All the children were scared and crying as the mothers ushered them off the range.

So you got 4 or five in tight and pulled all the misses out that were all over the place and got a picture to put on Stickbow and Facebook without showing the hundreds of arrows scattered about that you pulled to get your one hand hero picture.

"I think I will have to start wearing a blindfold"Members actually joke.He would do better with blinfold. So give it a try and improve your groups.

Nice try with the phony pictorial!

I agree. It's boring.

I hope you don't wear a blindfold when you're "driving" your primary hunting "weapon" Frisky, haha.

Good shooting Joe.

From: Don T. Lewis

Joe, maybe you could post a picture of your form for us. So we can see what near perfect form looks like. Also maybe you could go through your shot sequence for us. That is one great group! I wouldn’t want to be a deer in your neck of the woods. Good luck this season Joe the legend! ;)

From: Frisky
Date: 05-Aug-22

I got up this morning and saw the pic I took last night. For some reason, the 4th shot always ruins my group, landing 1/2" from the others.

Joe

From: Don T. Lewis

Also thank you for clearing up the meaning of the term one hander for us. I have never heard that one in archery before.

Anyway, the reason I posted this group was so you all could see what a genuine, NON- BOGUS group looks like. Note the depth of penetration into solidly packed bags. Real power there!

From: Frisky

Once again, lots of jealousy in this thread, but it's not going to do you any good! Just wait until I nail a monster this fall! The old drunk will be in Colorado, stinking up the place with booze, and I'll be grilling venison backstrap!

Joe

Step back to 40 yards, you will find new meaning in life....

From: hawkeye in PA
Date: 05-Aug-22

"Just wait until I nail a monster this fall!" Sure sounds like hunting with a Subaru:) Maybe the bow is in the back seat though.

From: Tom Litchfield
Date: 05-Aug-22

It is a nice group, but I don't understand why you shot it low in the leg so many times! The target is a life-sized burlap elephant isn't it?

From: crookedstix
Date: 05-Aug-22

"Stinking up the place with booze..."?

Clearly you refer to the small amount of Canadian whiskey that I keep around the camp as snakebite medicine, and with which to welcome the occasional Canadian hunter who drops by. I almost never touch the stuff myself.

Go ahead and hunt in your Minnesota meadows, crouching in wait like some snake in the grass, concealed in your own special cat-hair covered camo, with cars rolling by on the Interstate 50 yards away. That will be good practice for the day when you finally decide to join Pdiddly and me on a real adventure, where the mountains are mighty, the trees are tall, and the shots are so long that you have to salt your arrow before shooting, so the meat won't spoil while you're walking down to the trophy elk laying there. Now that's the life!

From: Frisky
Date: 05-Aug-22

There's a lot to be said for shooting at a plain burlap bag. Deer don't have the heart/lung area drawn on them. They come out in low light. Shooting at a plain old bag, at night, with the bag dimly lit, is realistic training. There's no possible chance of missing if you train this way.

Joe

From: HEXX
Date: 05-Aug-22

Frisky, I am not jealous, just wondering who in Colorado is going to give you their

venison ?

From: Frisky
Date: 05-Aug-22

HEXX- That Colorado trip is going to be the same old failure with the same old excuses, while I fire up the grill, fire up the fire pit and relax in the autumn night air, eating backstrap I butchered myself!

Joe

From: pickngrin
Date: 05-Aug-22

Definitely looks like the penetration power of a Bear takedown.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 05-Aug-22

Nice try, but a feather pillow inside a burlap sack is pretty easy to push arrows into.

The cats laid on the patio with me. Teddy, the black cat, was given a 10% chance of survival a month ago. He's beating the odds! They love backstrap, so we'll feasting come autumn!

Joe

From: David McLendon
Date: 06-Aug-22

When I shoot standing at something that low to the ground my arrows are angling downward. Are you shooting from a prone position?

From: bowhunt
Date: 06-Aug-22

The cats will be pissed if you fail on the backstraps. You will be ignored for life if you fail them.Cats are so spoiled.I got three as well. They wont even touch Fancy Feast. They sure love Temptations!

Shoot straight for the cats. >>>------>

From: Frisky
Date: 06-Aug-22

Bowhunt- I have 5. Two are off to the side in the grass.

Joe

From: olddogrib
Date: 06-Aug-22

Those cats were all born with congenital thyroid problems, hence Teddy's undisclosed medical issues. It's the only reason they don't look anorexic and they're all vegan by necessity. The only backstraps they've ever seen is their unlucky brethren that didn't make it across the 4-lane!

From: crookedstix
Date: 06-Aug-22

I think Teddy's risk factor is that he spends time in the garage, where stray arrows are apt to be flying all around. It's no wonder he tried to stow away in Pdiddly's car when we were leaving.

From: olddogrib
Date: 06-Aug-22

That makes sense. He's likely a neurotic mess...and needs a cat psychiatrist, which Joe isn't going to provide any time soon. I couldn't blame any of them if they runned oft. Unlike Frisky, felines have the innate hunting instinct to catch a meal by dark!

From: Frisky
Date: 06-Aug-22

Teddy came down with diabetes. Now, they've all gone on a diet. By fall, there'll be no more obesity in this household, except for Fatso. He's already gone from 22 to 18.5 pounds and dropping!

Joe

From: Supernaut
Date: 06-Aug-22

Love the cat pic Joe.

Folks can bust your stones about your hunting and shooting prowess but no one can ever say you don't love and care for your 4 legged friends.

Good luck this season.

From: HEXX
Date: 06-Aug-22

So Frisky, what do you charge to butcher someone elsie's deer to get their back straps ?

From: Frisky
Date: 06-Aug-22

Someone ought to hex Hexx's season for his blasphemy toward obvious greatness.

Joe

From: Redfeathers
Date: 06-Aug-22

I hate when those burlap bags jump the string :) Joe, please post pics of Colorado whenever you get back. Game or no game, just being in Colorado will make the trip a success.

From: Frisky
Date: 06-Aug-22

I wouldn't go to that God-forsaken dive of a state, to hunt animals stupider than whitetail fawns, if you paid me! I'm staying here and going after the mighty whitetail deer!

Joe

From: Babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 06-Aug-22

Great looking cats Joe. I have two that hang out with me in the man cave. They are spoiled too .

"I'm staying here and going after the mighty whitetail deer!"

Frisky's literally "going after" them with this once they're anywhere between the green edges of the road and he has them in the headlights!!

Yep, that's got "JOE" written all over it. Looks like something out of Mad Max or a Stephen King novel!

From: Downcanyon

Now I think I know who really shot that group. Your crazy cat lady neighbor got tired of picking up arrows in her front yard, and all those cats came with her while she was showing you how to hit that target of yours?

From: HEXX

" Pride comes before the fall " and " The bigger they are, the harder they fall ".

From: Frisky
Date: 07-Aug-22

Downcanyon, try your best to keep at a distance from cat ladies. As for HEXX, I've been the Legend of the North for many years. I have not been dethroned. It's gonna be a good laugh when the season comes around and I nail a monster! All doubt about my rightful position will be eliminated.

Joe

From: HEXX

Frisky, I definitely recommend that you take that cat lady monster hunting with you! Maybe you two can arrange a sitter for the cats?

Just for the heck of it, let's take a look at my accuracy, over the years, with multiple bows. This will help us determine whether or not my claims of greatness are bogus.

Bloviations Of Greatness Under Scrutiny?

What this thread needs is not more cowbell, but more cats!

From: g2knee
Date: 07-Aug-22

Shoot at longer ranges if you need a challenge. Being great at 20 yards is just one step on the way to being great at 40.

From: Downcanyon
Date: 07-Aug-22

Well I have to admit, you definitely play close attention to the most important principle in bowhunting...."If you're having trouble hitting it, just get closer"

From: Frisky
Date: 08-Aug-22

Frisky's embedded Photo

In spite of the chorus of jealousy, a lot of folks have asked me, "Joe, how do you stack them right in there like that?" The only answer I can think of is- When you're great, you're great! Now, this target shows I wasn't always great. The target face was falling down. so I spaced the group to pin it in place. That's why they're not stacked. However, notice they're all in the lungs?

Joe

From: Downcanyon
Date: 08-Aug-22

An Intentionally spaced group? A stunt like that could have only been accomplished with the Bob Savage Deathmaster.
