On most of my bows, I spray on 4-5 coats of Minwax semigloss oil based poly over 4 coats of marine epoxy on the riser. On a few “lookers”, I like the Spray Max 2K gloss and buff out the cured finish to a beautiful high gloss finish. Richard

Catskills, no, it's a two part epoxy-type finish. Lots of info on their site...

An afterthought.....there is a world of ideas, tips, and how-to videos that can easily be applied to bow finishing......all available by searching “electric guitar building” on the Internet. Try dyeing some of your veneers...you’ll be pleased! RKK

I'm a total novice, did a couple refinishes on my own bows.

I really like the ease of use of this spray. The adjustable tip keep it's from spitting and sputtering out blobs. I got 12 light coats out of one can and am very happy with the finish.

Here is the actual spray.

The finished product.

There are some very talented and knowledgeable refinishers here....I'm not one of them but I enjoy doing it.

I use Blacktail finish works good you mix your own flattening agent so it can be gloss, satin or flat .

I use Milesi it’s a finish from Europe great stuff. I use it to put down what I call the Toadskin finish.

X2 with Richard. Except I haven't used the 2K finish. Helsman satin or Big Jim's Buffalo gloss or satin. For me. I do all my sealing work with a glossy epoxy sand it down and then choose my satin finish. JF

I usually use Helmsman spar urethane or Deft clear satin lacquer. Both from a rattle can. I like the results.
