Anybody here shoot banana cut fletch. Anybody use it on hunting arrows.

Most of my arrows sport them. Both hunting and target.

Noisiest fletching there is.

Yep. I made six banana fletch cedar arrows (pictured) and killed five bucks with five of them six arrows. I also killed one of my black bears with a banana fletched maple arrow I made.

I used to use them a LOT. My dad loved 'em. I shoot banana SHAPED fletch some now but they are only 3' or 4" instead of 5' or 5 1/2".

They are overkill but I still like them sometimes.

About all I've used the last 30 or so years.Started with the Maxi which was 5 3/4" I think. Then bought an adjustable banana chopper.

Cool looking style.

I have used them in the past. I did one dozen using the highest and longest cut. They were red and white. Stood out in the sun in my backquiver, so proud of myself until I shot them. Noisy like a flu-flu, about as fast as a flu-flu. I could actually “see” how slow they were. We talking a 65# bow. Sold them that day to some poor romantic.

Try some 4" or 5" low profile banana fletching and you will see (and hear) a big difference. If you want to hear noisy, I made up a dozen high profile 5" parabolic arrows (pictured) and they are nosier than any arrows I ever made, to include all the banana fletched arrows I've made. I only use them noisy buggers for small game now.

From: Darryl/Deni

I have used them for years and never had any problems with them as far as noise or a loss of speed that ever made any real difference on targets or game and have always provided good flight with any point on them.

Played with some 4" Flex-Fletch in 3 fletch and liked them. They discontinued them - geez.

They are GREAT for stabilizing a big broadhead and making up for tune/shooting errors.

They are louder than other configurations and they are awful in wind.

From: roubidoux10

I've used a low profile version for years on my bamboo shafts.

I’m just finishing a set for hunting, I love those things. The arrow in the pic hanging on the Axis deer antler passed through a coyote’s heart but the arrow that passed through the Axis heart was also had “nanners”. I’ve used them with wood, carbon and aluminum.

From: GUTPILEPA

They are definitely cool looking

I use them. I modified my 5 inch chopper to shorten and lower the profile a little. I like them.

From: Jarhead

I anchor with my finger in my mouth... with banana cut I don't ever have the feather touch my face, which is distracting...

I tried the but they made too much noise.

I like them. My current arrows have them.

From: LBshooter

Yes I have them on my hunting arrows, have always like the look. If you have a larger cut they can whisper as they fly, but, that's called the whisper of death lol.

From: kaw369
Date: 27-Jul-22

I have been using them forever. I have never had any problems with noise. They sure do straighten an arrow out fast.

Banana fletch is all I’ve used for better than 25 years. My favorite style. Yes the bigger maxi fletch whistles some but I never had a deer duck because of it. In fact they’ve reacted much more to shield cut. I burn all mine and have decreased the size down to about 4 1/2 “ long and 5/8” high.

On all my arrows, 5.5". I did a 4" for IBO competition and they worked just fine. I cut them with a modified chopper by inserting a filler plate along the base.

Hard to see the fletch on this one. Called her in with a mouth call for a 20 - 25 yard shot. The arrow, sitka spruce, passed through the coyote's heart, then she caught it in mid-flight in her mouth. So, maybe she did hear it.

felipe,

That closeup from the nock end is a perfect illustration of the additional surface area gained by a hard helical.

Great coyote tale!

From: felipe
Date: 27-Jul-22

You mean coyote "tail" don't you Snow? hee hee. I've called in and arrowed three coyotes, all quick shots, the memories of each burned into my mind like no other.

That fletch does spin up the arrow quickly, then I guess there isn't as much frontal area.

I've been using them for the last decade or more on some tapered Surewood shafts. They fly like great and I've never noticed any issues with noise or speed.

I like banana fletch! The yellow (cedars) are chopped on my old 'lil chopper', the red white splice (Doug fir) I burned. Old arrows I made in the late 80s early 90s. And all are 5 1/2" X 3/4".

Of all that I made, I had a couple that were a bit noisy...due to my own fault in working too fast and not double checking that the feather was firmly glued in alignment...had the leading edge move on me with that 5.5 length.

Never had a noise issue with banana cuts I personally think they dont pull a heavy shaft out of paradox as quick as a sheild or traditional cut fletch does at same length

Now that is an arrow on steroids. "LOL"

From: George D. Stout
Date: 29-Jul-22

Paraphrasing Maurice Thompson, 'the arrow doesn't make a sound that is alarming to the game as that is a sound normal to the woods'. I tend to agree with Maurice on that. Everyone has their own thoughts on arrow and bow noise and their affect on game.

From: crazyjjk
Date: 29-Jul-22

So true, George

From: TGbow
Date: 29-Jul-22

George, I've thought the same as Maurice for years. Deer hear swooping owls n Hawks, ect. in the woods.

Seems squirrels pay more attention to arrow noise though..lot their predators come swooping thru the air.
