That is one beautiful looking bow ....

Very nice bow. Interesting takeoff on that upper fade too.

Outstanding! Great history reading. One of the Greatest Generation, for sure. Beautiful slender lines on your Sultan. The colors in the riser are muted but beautiful. Thanks for posting such a interesting and informative article on one of the Greats!

Curt ... if this does become a build project, may I ask if you'd be willing to post pictures and details of the build ... I have a feeling this could become something a little special

Very interesting article, so how does the Sultan compare to the Drake bows.

From: Yellah Nocks
Date: 13-Jan-22

Fdp...I saw that too.

That's a very cool bow from an under-the- radar but influential bow maker.

Would live to see the profile fully strung!

I found one on craigslist all the way up here in Washington state. A real fun bow to shoot.

Nice looking bow with some early tech in the design.

I recently purchased one of these also. Does anyone know when he started making the 'Sultan'? Very similar to the one above that Primitive Sniper posted except mine has a streaked cinnamon colored glass. I believe these are early examples of this model and I am guessing from the 50's but not really sure.

He was making them in September 1957. Ad from Archery magazine. I'd bet Primitive Sniper & Dart's are both older.

I'll check some older magazines later if no one has posted anything more definitive as to when the Sultan first went into production.

Looks like Feb 1954 for early Sultan models....

Seneca That is awesome information just what I was hoping for. 55.00 back in 1954 high dollar bow for that time. This old bow is a sweet shooter I have been enjoying it.

Good looking bows and I bet they are quick with those big hooks.

Question, in the advertisement Seneca posted above it talks about half-scale apertures and full sighting apertures. Are they talking about the height of the sight window or about actual sights? I have never seen this in a description before. Thanks, Good Day

From: Dart
Date: 09-Mar-22

I think they must be talking about the sight window.

I have been shooting some 700 carbons and some POC arrows out of it so far. I will be trying my Easton CarbonOne arrows from my olympic set-up out of it and start playing with the brace on it next. They are .216 outer diameter with 110 grain tips. Should be interesting. I might have to set the chronograph up.

Primitive sniper, did you make the form? If you did I would love to see the results.

I also noticed that your riser is laid up like the one in catalog picture above with the Hickory(I think) in the center. I think mine looks like osage with a thinner layer of hickory on the back and belly side of the riser.

Nice bows. I have one too and have shot it a few times but now it just hangs as part of the collection. Lance

Look at how closely the curves on this sultan match my Dreamcatcher.

I also realized this morning that this Sultan has an extra center lamination in the recurve portion of the limb. It starts at the tip and tapers out just below the recurve. I have no other bows that have that. In the last picture, Can anyone identify what material this is on the tip overlays? One of them has been damaged and I will need to get it fixed before shooting it much more.

this is where the center lamination fades out just after the recurved portion on the limb

sorry if you guys are getting tired of seeing it. I just find it fascinating and wanted to share it. I thought this tip overlay material might be horn. I need to find something that matches it.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. Some bows just look like sweet shooters don't they.

That is what happened with this one I saw it on the ebay and curiosity just got the best of me. Glad I bought it.
