I am looking at the 50" Bodnik Firestick or the Bear 52" Kodiak Mag. Any opinions ?

Are you able to or have you shot either or both of them?

I have the Bear 48" Super Mag and the Bear 60" takedown. Which I like the way they shoot. I also have the KT-44, Rodney Wright 46" Stalker, 52" Fedora stalker and 52" Tiger Shrew. All shoot great.

So you haven't shot either of the 2 you asked about?

Then it's just subjectivity.

The Bodnik has an outstanding warranty. The Bear has sentiment attached to it. The performance isn't going to vastly different between the 2. Some folks say that Bear has QC problems. Y experience is that Bear bows do have very inconsistent grip dimensions, haven't handled enough Bodnik bows to say.

Comes down to what appeals to you from a sentimental and aesthetic point of view.

I'm not a good one to ask, I'm steeped in old stuff and would opt for a used vintage bow over any new model. Now, a Kodiak Magnum is a fine bow, especially for short draw folks like me, but there are/were others of the same ilk that were nice on the force/draw as well. I've had the luxury of shooting literally dozens of old bows and have a good feel for what fits me, which is likely not what will fit you.

Fit is that equalizer that will keep a bow out of the classifieds, no matter how good someone tells you it is. It's up to you to find that fit.

I have no input on the bow but that's a beautiful buck Jack! Well done Sir.

I have many K. Mags and the same bow from Bodnik called a Kiowa that is a K. Mag copy. I do not own a fire stick and have never shot one. My Kiowa is a beautiful bow and has a great draw cycle for a short bow. It looks better than the Bear and draws a bit smoother. I grew up on the K.Mag and have a love affair with them so admit to some bias. Performance wise they are about identical to the best of my ability to tell. The Kiowa has a better warranty by far but at a higher initial price for a new bow ($675.00) That said I have used the K. Mag since 1967 and shoot them a lot and have never had one need warranty work. I think it would come down to a matter of personal feel. The Black Kiowa which is a Micarta riser weighs a lot more than the K. Mag or wood Kiowa and is simply the best short bow I have ever shot. They are expensive and hard to find without ordering directly from Bodnik .

For a question like that your not going to get a useful answer because neither bow has a huge flaw.

Theres plenty of people who like both of those bows(and even more who dislike anything that short.)

As others have said - it would really be best to try them.

Congratulations on Nice Buck, keep on shooting what you enjoy

The only thing we can help you with is to let you know the Bodnik has a longbow style flat grip as apposed to the Kmags recurve pistol grip.

Go with the American made Bear.

I think the 52" K-Mag is a great shooting bow. I sold it to help finance a custom and gained nothing. Frank

K mag is a great bow. Similar bow is the shorter Wing Red Wing Hunter. I like my Toelke Troll best for a short recurve.

If the bow doesn't work out for you, you can always sell a Bear and look for another bow.

Whichever you choose you should fondle it first to see if the grip is to your liking.

Bodnik bows great warranty!

GLF is correct... What type of grip fits you better will probably be the decision maker.
