I will not bother you folks with anymore spine questions after this final one...Suppose the wooden shaft you are testing at full length spines at 55 lbs... Then you cut the shaft down to 27"......What effect will that have on the spine of the shaft ??? Thanks and no more questions on this subject....I promise....Merry Christmas...Be safe....Des

Then it will behave as a 60# spine.

Yep every inch of change will increase or decrease the dynamic spine 5lbs.

When you say testing are you shooting it or are you measuring stiffness on a spine tester? If shooting, yes there will be a difference. If just measuring spine on a tester there will be no difference.

Keep asking questions. That's what this forum is here for. I'm sure that there are many out there that have the same question.

Yes! I learn daily here just reading the questions and then all the answers. I'm guessing this is the best forum anywhere for that.

Either I forgot or didn’t know this. Probably the latter.
What’s full length considered on wood shafts when they are originally spined?

“ What’s full length considered on wood shafts when they are originally spined?”
Yes probably usually 32“, but it doesn’t matter, because the spine rating is checked when the shaft is supported at two points, 26“ apart… and the deflection there is used to calculate the spine rating for an arrow of 28“… (is it just me, or is it shockingly convenient that the math works out so neatly?).
So anyway… a 32” shaft rated at #50 (static) is 4” longer than 28”… so if you leave it full length, that is a #30 shaft (dynamic)…. Because 4” @ #5/inch are #20….
Either that or I give up!

Desprado":
It will depend on which standard was used when the shaft was spined.
Most all wood shaft are spined at the AMO standard which will give you the spine for a 28" arrow. as said above @ 32" it will spine 20# lighter than its static spine or 30#, and the shaft will increase 5# for every 1" that you remove from the shaft. So if cut to 27" BOP it will spine 55#
The Key is to remember ALL AMO spined shaft are for a 28" arrow, if the shaft is shortened to less than 28" the spine increases 5#/inch and will decrease 5#/inch for measurements longer than 28"

Thanks for the advice.....I know often when a question is asked you read replies such as "Get the popcorn ready" or "Here we go again" or "That was posted before " So I just don't want to go there...Thanks for the help & Merry Christmas....Hope you draw good blood this late season and none of it is yours !!!!!
