Mortis Sagittas - Beautiful, are you the bowyer? Looks similar to the 1959 Bear Kodiak reproduction?

From: Mortis Sagittas
Date: 16-Oct-21

No I am not the bowyer. Our very own Nemah is the bowyer. He sells them in the classifieds and yes they are 59 Kodiak copies though much nicer.

From: fdp
Date: 16-Oct-21

He does build a gorgeous bow.

From: bodymanbowyer
Date: 16-Oct-21

Richard builds an excellent 1959 Kodiak and a 1960 Kodiak Deluxe. All in his rendition. He does not and will not build to order. It keeps it less stressful and fun. So If you see one in your weight that you like, you better get it. Richards "Nemah" work is second to none. A true Craftsman. JF

Joe, glad to see you finally have one! They are great bows. Lance

This is the Korte I bought from my friend Chad Holm , I asked him to build me a 1960 Kodiak Deluxe, then this showed up at his shop , it’s missed marked 44# when it’s 48# , other than that it’s never going anywhere staying with me, what a great shooting bow, Richard really knows what’s up , Now if I could just get one that looks like a Kodiak deluxe

Jeff it amazes me how Richard makes the deluxe model with the wood in riser and the “I” beam . He does a really great job and that one looks awesome. Thanks again Jay for the One you so kindly sold me. Now you have got to get a left hand for yourself ......

Tom, Yes they do shoot as good as they look. I heard from a friend of mine a light weight one came up a week or so ago that was on the classifieds but it went quick. Not sure what that one was .

From: bodymanbowyer
Date: 08-Dec-21

My low poundage RKK is 34# at 28" what a Joy to fling some arrows. Perfect for a guy that went through a Huge Rotator Cuff repair, that didn't work out. JF

From: Dry Bones
Date: 09-Dec-21

Jeff, I may not be able to shoot as much until I get my shop wired up. Right now the shooting has only been able to happen in daylight hours when I am not working, so there is a void in the amount of arrows that hit the target. Once I get the electricals ran, I may be able to go back o shooting like I want.

I really like how he makes these “I” beams really stand out. It not only looks good but adds a little mass weight and compliments the riser wood he uses. Richard puts a lot of time and thought in these bows. It surely shows how much he loves wood and working with wood. I believe I’ve read he was a shop teacher and when I went to high school we had a shop teacher named Mr. Craig and not one teenager ever disrespected that man. He was somewhat of a quiet man and we all became friends and learned a lot from him. He knew some of us were just back woods boys who wouldn’t get the chance to go to a collage or get a degree but made sure we can use a power tool and finish wood . Mr. Richard Korte reminds me of our shop teacher . If you guys do a search somewhere on here is a step by step bow build and what he does to bring these beautiful bows to us . As many know his prices when he sells one is unbelievably lower then most and he does not do this for the money as most you know materials cost quite a bit. He does it cause he loves “Wood” and spending time creating things with the hands God gifted him with. He shares those gifts for us to enjoy and probably just makes enough to go purchase some wood to do it all over again for another here . If you are ever able to get one of his creations really study what goes into it. He doesn’t cut corners and I can tell ya he uses his hands more then machinery to shape these bows. You can buy a mass produced bow but his are one at a time and lots of hours shaping with those hands . I believe he’s in his mid or late 70s so just imagine the pain his hands may have by the end of a day in his shop. Makes one Really appreciate owning one his bows. I know I do.......Thanks Richard for your “Old School” way of doing things. Keefer’s <‘)))><

Wow!! I'm glad this one blew up. Keefers you have some beauties there!

From: Keefers
Date: 09-Dec-21

Thank you Joe and yours is a beautiful one too. How are you liking yours now? I have to give thanks to Jay (Altitude Sickness) and to Mark (SueDog) both for the two I have. I actually received both within a month or so after those were actually made.. The Macassar one has the same wood that new collection series Bear has with the Mac. Ebony and figured bubinga wood in it. I am not sure but I think Richard wanted to make one like that one as well ...

From: Keefers
Date: 09-Dec-21

Richard was a teacher and learned some things from a shop teacher . I wasn’t sure but my friend Fred found the article I read a few years ago and Mr. Korte was a teacher and I’m not certain what he taught so maybe he can chime in and fill us in himself possibly. I did read he saved to buy 1 tool at a time and he built his own shop pretty much. You all have got to check out the boats he made a swell. The man has talent no doubt.

From: Nemah
Date: 09-Dec-21

8th grade life science teacher, track and basketball coach for 35 years. My dad owned a gas station in Spokane, WA and was my inspiration for making things, as times were tough and we couldn’t afford much. When I started teaching, a colleague, who knew I liked woodworking, told me to buy a tool with each paycheck. A saw, a wrench, a chisel, a square, etc., and to save a little each month to buy some bigger tools. So I did, and when I retired, I had everything I needed in the way of woodworking. I found the Stickbow website and followed Ric Andersons’ directions on bow building, and never stopped. I’ve made 7 wooden boats so far and closing in on 250 bows.....longbows to start, many take- down longbows, and eventually recurves. I most enjoy the creative process, and taking orders would stop that aspect of building, so I just don’t take any custom orders. Hope this helps answer your questions. Merry Christmas all! Richard Oh, by the way...my last name is pronounced Corty.

From: Keefers
Date: 10-Dec-21

Richard thanks for chiming in and that makes me appreciate your bows that much more.... Also now I got to tell those I know your last name sounds like Corty not “Core Tay lol... I can say this much I bet there are a lot of folks waiting like a hawk on a tree branch after a kicked up rabbit from a combine picking beans ready to snatch up your next creation Richard... I know several who have told me they just missed one you posted and I know they cruise the classifieds daily. That right there speaks volumes for sure....
