Aside from the downward antler and apparent neck wound, doesn't his face look rather odd and veins really showing.

I tend to think it is the affect of the way the sunlight is hitting his head and face.

His side right at the belly line has a similar look.

Matt, I've heard and read a lot about the impact of injuries and malformed antlers. But during the past few years I've been hunting an area where I've seen a significant number of bucks with crazy antlers. All the 'malformed' antlers have been on the left side. Right side is normal. Now if the some of the weird antlers were on the left and right sides, maybe the 'injury' explanation would hold true. But in the last 5 years I've seen 11 bucks with problems only on the left side. It could be a completely missing left antler, or a tall spike on the left side with a multiple point normal right side, or a left side that had two main beams of almost normal points growing out of the left side and a normal right side.

So maybe there is a genetic element.

Enlarge the picture and look at his neck and his flank. Ther appears to be puncture wounds in his neck, and in his flank. Ther also what appears to be a bloody gaping hole in back of his neck near the base of the hanging antler. I think he may of hadhis young butt kicked.

I'm thinking he may have been hit by a car or truck

Poor guy has a headache. Looks like he wrestled a truck :)

Yea maybe a car. Looks like the skull is broken. We shot one Like that a few years ago. The skull plate actually moved around with the antler.

I have one like that on video. Seemed fine. Not even injured just strange.

I took a deer years ago that had 1 deformed antler. When I dressed it out, the lung on the opposite side was damaged. Our guess was a buck punched a whole in him, wasnt from a broadhead, just a puncture. I guess it could have been from anything and its pretty common with a opposite side injury.
