Went to the Ortho Dr. today, he thinks I have a torn rotator cuff. Just as the season takes off. I can still shoot but what a pain this is going to be !! Trying therapy first, hope it helps.

ron w.: I recently got the same diagnosis and an MRI confirmed the diagnosis - a complete tear. When I mentioned to the doctor that I've shot a bow for over 50 years, the response was "That may not be your future."

Did they suggest hanging for 30 seconds 3 times daily? It opens up the top of your shoulder (that bone plate on top) to lesson the impingement. It has helped me to where I have no pain at all in my shoulder. Now Tennis elbow, I have that but don't even play tennis?

I tore my rotator cuff in my bow arm shoulder (right shoulder) a year and a half ago. Confirmed with MRI, but my surgeon chose not to operate but do anti-inflammatory meds physical therapy. When I first tore it, I could not even put my hand on top of my head or put a coat on without help. Now I am pain free and shooting with no problem. I'm sure some people may need the surgery but I was glad my doctor chose the therapy route. He said I had a "pretty good tear". I already knew that. :o)

Went to the ortho yesterday. Thank the lord it is only a sprain. A shot of cortisone and he said I should be good to go.

I can’t do the cortisone shot, they don’t work for me and my blood sugar goes of the chart. We’ll try the PT and hope for the best !!

I tore mine 3 years ago. Did PT for six months until I retired. There was no pulling a bow back for me. Missed a season. Had surgery the following March. Was a year recovery but am better now

Ice it before and after shooting, copious amounts of ibuprofen, short draw

I hope you recover soon. Here is my experience. My bow arm (left) shoulder got impinged when I stepped into a beaver burrow hidden by tall weeds while mushroom hunting this spring. Between chiropractor adjustments and passively hanging from a bar with palms forward as Liv2Hunt mentioned, I'm getting more range of motion and less pain when drawing my bow. I'm going bowhunting this season but I'm limiting my shooting range because I can't practice as much. I bagged one of my better bucks a few years ago while my right shoulder was impinged. The Good Lord sent that buck right under my tree stand for a short kill shot. It took almost a year for my right shoulder to get back to normal, so I'm hopeful my left shoulder will also heal in time.

get this book. I tore both cuffs at different times. neighbor chiropractor said to buy this book and do the exercises as shown. I did and it fixed me up, both times.....and a couple times years later. If you do the moves as shown every day for reps & sets all the time, it strengthens them and you will never tear a cuff. Once I got better I did not keep after the moves daily. A couple of years later I hurt it again. Now I do them all the time, I am 68 and my rotator cuffs are good.
