What are you guys using. Anyone buy from U- line?

Thx

I’ve always made my own using Home Depot’s x-large, heavy duty shipping cartons. I made a how-to set of photos years ago.....it may still be in my history. Not my original idea.......someone smarter than me in the past. But I’ve shipped hundreds of bows in these boxes with only one being destroyed, breaking the bow in half at the grip. Richard

I’ve had good luck with mop boxes. You can get for free at any grocery store. I’ve also taped arrow boxes together for small bows

1/27/23.....look in my history for how-to build a shipping carton.

Now, I cut the carton to shape with my bandsaw.....big time saver. If you can build a bow, you can build a carton! RK

U line has a 4x4 box that works good for longbows and a 5x5 that works for recurves but you have to cut them to length .Bigger than 5x5 and you will get extra shipping . Stay away from tubes .

Make A triangle shaped box out of free bicycle boxes from your local bike shop.

Carpet tubes from the carpet stores.

I make them out of fluorescent tube boxes from your favorite big box hardware/lumberyard.

There are some good box making "how to" threads. I go to a local appliance store and get a refrigerator box to use for the cardboard.

Triangle cardboard boxes seem to be the most structurally stable.

All suggestions are EXCELLENT! What about insurance through the USPS? If You MARK "fragile" and insure for 500 to 1,000 bucks, would that get the PO's attention to handle with extreme care? Or do Y'ALL think that the employees even pay attention??

Insurance at USPS is very cheap and worthwhile . Two arrow boxes spliced together works , and USPS gives out triangle boxes for free that you can splice together.

X2 on wood flooring boxes, or boxes that electric or hot water baseboard heat come in.

I have gone to the gun store and asked for a couple of rifle boxes, cut the end out and fit them together for proper length and ship your bow.

I do what nemah does, I have also used pvc pipe with two end caps for longbows, schedule twenty of course.

“But I’ve shipped hundreds of bows in these boxes with only one being destroyed, breaking the bow in half at the grip. Richard”

Ironically, the one full-size recurve I have shipped, I built a box to Nemah’s spec…. And USPS snapped it in half at the grip. I had only paid $5 for the bow, but I should at least have gone to the PO and gotten my shipping cost back out of it…. NOT a failure of the design, but the System. I have received several bows in the mail which just got put in a poly bag and dropped in a box with a crumpled sheet of paper in each end…

Right now is a good time to visit your local tackle shop and ask about the boxes they receive when they order fishing rods.

I just threw away some very good electrical heat box’s today (21) but I have some saved in case I ever trade or sell a bow. I was thinking of how many people would be upset with me for crushing them lol. Had some 72” long ones and some 60” 9 - 48” ones as well. I know it’s a shame to waste them but I’ll get more in the future I’m sure.

I've sourced some long heavy duty boxes from local ski shop. If you have anywhere local to you that's sells snow skis or water skis they will probably have some that they would give you.

I never get on the site anymore but years ago I posted recurve shipping box instructions over on Tradgang. I believe they still can be found in the How to resource section. I've made a few hundred bow boxes using this method over the years. The only improvement to this is to make the end flaps the same height as the box. So if making a 3" tall box I would add 6" to the length of the cardboard to allow for this instead of the 5.5" I used in the instructions.
