Put his Bear razor heads up for sale? Does anybody have one of bears first razor heads?

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 12-Mar-25

Thanks Jon. Were the vent holes different from the 1964 razor heads? And what color were they ?

Don I can't post a photo so for now you will have to google 1956 Bear Razor head photo to see what they look like.

Yes I can do that Jon. Get kind of spoiled on here though;) I know I’m not the only one that misses the pictures. Hopefully, they’ll be back up soon.

Here is a 1955 “pin-hole” EXP Razorhead from Fred I have in my Razorhead display. They came out to the public in 1956 and those early ones came with silver pin hole bleeders not the blued ones which came out in 1957.

Sorry I give up. Not sure why the picture won’t post. I resized it. If you’d like to see one of his Experimental 1955 razorheads or the other years feel free to text me. 616-490- 0501 Nate

That was a very helpful tip on the Silver bleeder blades.

No problem at all. I was told Fred changed from silver to blued because of cost. I haven’t confirmed that anywhere that’s just hear say. I have found 4-6 boxes of 1956 heads of the years and they all had the silver ones with the slot tool that has the bigger hole. All the boxes of 57 head I have found have all had the black ones through 59. Then 1960 and so on they were all solid with no holes.

If anybody would know, it's BEARMAN, thanks BEARMAN...

1955 Fred Bear produced 300 Pinned Bear Razorheads prototypes and sent them to bowhunters to test. The pinned ferrule Razorhead had an impression of a bear head stamped in the vents. The hardest Bear Razorhead to find is the Bear Giant (made 1959). Only a very few prototypes were ever made.

I guess sometime later the bear head stamped in the prototype vents were changed.

Don,

Without pics here is how I ID Razorheads. I don't the years exactly.

First were bubbleheads - The front of the ferrule was raised

Next - the ferrule was flattened at the front, also the vents were kind of a smooth arc parallel to the ferrule.

Then the vents were slightly angled towards the front but still an arc. No longer parallel to the ferrule

1964 took the vent angle to a point.

Thanks everyone. Always good information here.

Has anyone ever found a Bear pin head?

I have one of Fred’s 1955 Pinned Razorheads in my collection. Definitely my most prized peace I have. Razorheads can be tricky to date, because the 56 and the 1960 AKA 1959 had the same size vent holes. The 57 razorhead has the widest vents and is the easiest one to identify because they are so wide. The 64 the vent comes to a point like Don said so those are the most common being made from 1964 (depending on who you ask lol) through 1977. I have2 full boxes from each year along with some odd ball heads and the 1955 prototype in my Razorhead display. The boxes with the black labels on the end were sold as H-1s meaning they didn’t come with bleeder blades. Those boxes are harder to find. I also have some Hold and chrome 56 Razorheads in my display as wel. The gold ones were given out to Executives by Fred on special hunts at Grousehaven and other places. The Chrome ones were also sent out as novelty’s to dealers and clubs. Wish I could post pictures, I’d be glad to share all the different styles.

Also the early 1955 Bear Pinned razorhead had a bear shaped bleeder blade. When I can post pictures I’ll show it here if guys would like to see.

BEARMAN, I'd like to see it. I have a picture of the super rare 1959 Bear Giant Razorhead I'll try to remember to post the picture when the picture issue gets fixed.

Sure I’d like to see them. Thanks

I’d also like to see a close up of that Bear Pin head. How rare are they?

From: BEARMAN Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 12-Mar-25

Sure no problem. The Giant razorheads are awesome. I have seen both Genes and Wades in person. I think the Shark razorhead is bad ass too, Fred gave that one to Floyd’s and of course it ended up with Wade since he has the deepest pockets. The Pinned razorhead is pretty scarce. Of the 300 Fred made, I believe there are 10-15 left in collections.

I have 4 of the bubble heads mounted on the original arrows. Do I assume they would be from 56?

AK Pathfinder. If they have the “bubble” on the from them yes. 1956

Usually when you find Bear razor heads they are the 1964 version. Those are the shooters. Older ones are more collectible.
