Shared a campfire with Ron Le Claire. Ron had excellent taste in knives and all things hunting. Ron was always at the Elm Hall shoot in Michigan. I had just made a brace of stag handled knives, so we talked knives and broadheads. Ron said he was partial to ace heads because they were easy to sharpen though at the time he was promoting German jagers. He was a pleasure to talk hunting and archery with.

Shared a campfire with Roger Rothhaar and lesser known but no less important (in Texas anyway) Gerald Fougerat round about 1992. The occasion was the late great S. Texas Javi hunt, to which I was invited by Gerald. Was the fist time I ever shot a 21st Century hybrid longbow, although I had heard of them a few years before in Jacksonville, TX at the state trad shoot. A few other well knowns were there, but the only person I knew was Gerald and I was grateful he would let such a nobody join the fun. Those were the days alright.

Join the PBS and then attend the next gathering. Hundreds of who’s who and a great time.

No but didn’t make it any less memorable. Camp Comfort in West Virginia comes to mind. Or maybe Split Rock Island during a blizzard.

Monty Browning and Ron Pittsley both great story tellers. Monty was really not a campfire but an evening/weekend here in WV.

I spent 14 days in BC with Bill Love who guided Fred Bear on many trips. I also had dinner with Glenn St.Charles and his wife Margaret at a P&Y convention. He had some good stories about past hunts.
