My dad bought Hunting the Hard Way in the 60's and I must have read it the first time in 1970. I was transfixed as a 14 year old and must have read it at least 10 or 12 times since.
He was one of a kind!

He was an early icon in the sport we love so much. We owe him and a handful of others our great appreciation. It surely doesn’t seem like 50 years.

I discovered Howard Hill in 1982 and immediately realized his greatness of character.

Yes, it doesn't seem like 50 years that he passed. I've shot Hill bows since the mid 70's and then got interested in the man himself. He was not only a great shot, hunter, archer, he was a very interesting man, a self-promoter.

Years seem to be going by now like the 1/4 mile markers on the Bonneville salt flats.

I saw Howard give a demo in an indoor lanes, after his return from Africa. He was promoting the new lanes. When he finished shooting a few paper and aerial targets he signed a some wood pieces, and left. In the early 60's Hugh Rich order a Hill longbow from Howard Hill Archery. It was 69", 72# @ 28" with 4 Bamboo lams, black radius glass on the back (not flat) and white glass on the belly. It cost $72 at that time.
