A little while earlier, right at daybreak, we had 8 visitors in our garden. My wife was all excited as she whispered very loudly that there were deer in the garden. Then as she counted excitedly, a few more came in.
It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that just seeing a deer was a big thing around here. Now they are everywhere, lots of them.
We watched as they made their way over to my big comfortable blind and browsed around in front of it. There were 2 that still had one side of their antlers on. It is still season here but the last week has been a very busy one. The wife was found to have a blockage and surgery was the next day. Then two more trips to the big city for other issues (all hers for once).
This morning I am leaving in a few minutes with my son to go over into Oklahoma to look at 2 lakes. But tomorrow morning I may be in the blind unless something else happens. Back in mid October, the deer simply quit coming around except late at night.
We had no clue as to how many made it but it looks like enough did. So maybe the Kmag and I will be out there early tomorrow to greet them if they venture by again.

How long does deer season go in Arkansas. Assuming that's where you hunt.

When I was growing up seeing a deer was a pretty uncommon event. When in high school some of my friends dads went bow hunting and if one of them bagged a deer it was an event that brought several people to see the deer that they had shot.
Now seeing them is an every day event. I have hit three with my car and truck and have dodged many more. My youngest daughter hit five with my Jeep and I would rebuild the front end and when she bought her own Wrangler she has had a few more glancing hits. She is living in Montana now where she is dodging antelope and mule deer.

We have until the last day of February for archery deer in Arkansas. I hope the deer show up here too Jerry. I was seeing a dozen at a time back in September, but they have disappeared here as well. My neighbors say the same thing. I'm still getting salads from my garden so maybe I should watch for deer there. :) Good luck in the morning!

On long Island the deer have moved west and we now have them on our archery club smack in the middle of suburbia.

Those suburban deer will just stand there and watch you fill the bird feeder. Do not have to go "up north" to hunt deer in MI anymore.

Yes, I am in Arkansas and as Bob said, we have until the last day of February. The truck that I drive now is a direct result from totaling my previous truck on a big buck. I have hit 5 or 6 deer so far, my daughter and her family is nearly 15, maybe more plus one bear. I have had 2 deer hit right in front of my house in the last couple of years. I saw 2 deer this morning as my son and I went on a road trip into Oklahoma. They were in the front yard of my grandfather's old house. Kind of ironic as he never expected deer to ever be seen on his land. Now they are all over it. It would have been nice for me if they had been this way back in the early 70s.

Thanks. Yes I wish there were more deer in the early 70's, too. We had EHD in my area this year. Now there are hardly any deer. You people better quit killing deer on the roads. It's illegal to hunt on the roads, after sunset, out of season, illegal weapons etc.
