Made it out for a short scouting trip yesterday. I hit some public land first to pull a couple of cameras, and then visited some private land that I don’t own, but am blessed to be able to hunt.
This first photo is from one of the cameras I pulled. It snowed here two weeks ago, and this gentleman thought it would be a great time to go squirrel hunting. My hats off to him - Definitely a man after my own heart! I hope he did well.

Ten days later, and it is 70 degrees. While walking through the Government woods I heard a big commotion and splashing 10 yards away and sure as shootin, there’s a six foot gator floating in a pool of water no bigger than most peoples living rooms. I got a pic of him, but it was a crappy photo that y’all wouldn’t be able to see her in. I say her, because there was a six in baby in there too. This pic shows the small slough they were in. This small pool does connect to a larger swamp.

Not too far from that slough, I found a very promising spot with several White Oaks. Looking forward to investigating further next fall. Just about the time I’m figuring I’m the great explorer, and I have a secret spot, I find that Jason has already been here.lol

Apparently Jason was here in 90 or 98, I couldn’t tell.

I did get some shooting in. Predator recurve with new to me limbs. Listed as 49#s. Still have some tuning to do, but I shot the line pretty good out to 70 -75 yards (paces). Loud and lots of felt “twang”, but pretty much hit what I was shooting at.

Hard to get good pics that really show size of alligators. This one is one of the bigger ones I’ve seen in here. He’s 9’-0”, pushing 10.

The man made hole drains to this low area named “The Flat Pond”. The Flat Pond will go dry long enough to grow six foot pines, then hold water long enough to fish in.

This is the “Baptizing Pond”. It is above the Flat Pond in the previous picture and drains into it when everything is full of water. In a drought now.

Old stand due West of Baptizing Pond. A couple of years ago, (probably 5) lightning hit the big pine next to it , ran down and jumped over to the metal in the stand, and blew the hell out of it. I fount pieces of 2x4 fifty yards away!

This is the opening next to the lightning stand. We still keep it mowed, even though nobody hunts it any more. Looking straight to the back of this pic, I have occasionally put up a climber in the woods between the opening and the Baptizing Pond. I missed a doe, and then killed a pig there 3? Years ago.
Again looking right in the middle of this pic, there is a stump I sot at a couple of times at 70ish paces.

I wish I had another pic of me drilling the stump at 70 yards, but it never happened.lol Overall, I was really happy will my results. Definitely have some tuning still to do, but Im close, and it was great to get back out and fling some arrows - definitely been too long!

Love to see different terrain people hunt in. Do you have an alligator season? Sounds like they need thinned out a little.
