The string that came with my Kmag that I had gotten off the bidding site was pretty well shot. The serving was coming off (I can at least serve) but the string was so frayed and thin. The bow had a bad twist in the lower limb but after carefully stringing it, I wrapped rubber bands tightly around the nock ends over the ends of the string. This was to help prevent the string from popping off as I attempted to get the twist out.
I got the twist mostly out very quickly and shot a few arrows to see how it shot and sounded. It was very loud and I didn't trust the string. So, after another adjustment left it strung for several weeks. In the meantime, I received a very nice string from Mat (bustedarrow2) complete with puffs already in it.
This evening, being snowed in by a snow (8 inches so far and still coming down, expecting up to 16 inches total) I finally took the old string and replaced it. At this moment, the brace height is 7 3/4" (Matt had already shot the string some with his own Kmag.)
Immediately, the bow was quieter and at 10 yards (inside the house) was shooting awesome. I am very, very happy with this bow, it is very quiet now and shoots awesome. It is a 1966 model, 41# and beautiful. I will be in the blind with it before this season ends here in Arkansas.
I can see why some love and hunt with this bow. And Thanks again Matt, it is an awesome string. At this point, I will be hunting with 600s and my three Bear Razorhead lites. I still have to put a quiver on it but that will be later. Next season I will have it up in my new ladder stand and I can't wait.
