I just bought a brand new Bear Super Grizzly. It comes with a 16 strand D97 string. I make my own strings and I prefer 12 strands (12 stands with .024 halo serving fits my goldtip nocks perfectly) My question is do I need to pad the loops out to 16 or can I just make a 12 strand string with the loops also being 12 and it will be fine? I just don't want to do any damage to the limb tips. Thanks!

I always pad my 12 strands with 4-6 in the loops of B-55. I like a thicker string on the ends.

Super Grizzlys are FF capable. They are sweet bows.

Bear man is right. The grizzly not super grizzly is not FF because the tips are not built up

I’m shooting my vintage Super Grizzly with a 12 strand D97 endless loop sting with .024 halo. I like it and so does the bow.

I did call Bear but they weren't allowed to recommend anything other than the string that came on the bow which was 16 strands of D97. I ended up making a 12 strand D97 string but padded the loops out to 16. with .024 halo it fits my goldtip nocks perfectly.

I love this bow! 7 1/2" brace height and it's super quiet. Shoots fast and flat. With these arrows my point on distance is about 17 yards which is perfect for me for hunting. I don't shoot past 20 anyway. Really happy with this purchase.

I’m surprised you can go with that low of a brace height, I am at 8” on mine.

I would use the string that came on it if that is what Bear recommended

I figured I'd start at 7 1/2" brace height and move it up if need be. But it shoots great and super quiet at 7 1/2" so I think I'll leave it there.

It's basically the same string. It came with 16 strand D97 and I made a 12 strand D97 but still padded the loops out to 16. The 16 strand string was too tight on my goldtip nocks.

Is the Super Grizzly physically heavier(does it weigh more)than the standard grizzly of equal draw weight? And are Supers noted for being faster than a standand ? Also, what exactly is or designates a "vintage" super grizzly ? I have seen vintage super grizzly , grizzly and super grizzly bows for sale and mentioned in topics. Could someone please explain or clarify , Thanks in advance .

Vintage Super Grizzly would be from the 1970s.

The vintage Super Grizzly was made from '73-'76 and was reintroduced in 2011. The vintage ones had the Victor™ sticker above the Super Grizzly logo. bvd

I'm not sure if the super grizzly is heavier than a grizzly... I don't have a grizzly to compare it to. The main differences that I'm aware of are the reinforced limb tips that allow for FF D97 material, and it has 2 layers of lamination in the limbs

Well the handles are laminated down the center on the super grizzly and the super grizzly has two limb lamination .And the built up limb tips
