If you remember or even kept track...
How many consecutive kills have you made?
And how many consecutive misses/losses?
I had a pretty good run, now I'm having a pretty bad run. Just wondering if it's a common trait of long time bowmen.

Define consecutive, as in year to year or shot to shot. I may have a year where I don't get a shot off.

Any length of time, shot to shot.
Going into this season I killed 8 straight deer that I shot at.
This season...ugh. 0/6 (5 deer, 1 coyote).

Never got to draw my bow on a deer last year. Before this year I had not seen a legal buck in 4 years. My last 6 shots at deer = 6 deer brought home. 1 buck and 2 does so far this year.

I once had 5 missed shots on a doe on the same day over a span of 30 minutes. I could have taken a sixth but chose to go home after realizing it wasn't my day.
This year had 4 consecutive shots that were kills over a span of 3 months. 1 bear, 3 deer (2 bucks, 1 doe).

At 80 years of age I shot a doe with a bow this year. The last year I did not shoot a deer with a bow was sometime back in the seventies.

This is ironic because a good friend of mine mentioned just last week he had killed his 13th deer in a row without a miss (compound... and a big buck too.) Back in the mid- 1980s when I was in my prime, I kept track one season. I went 13 in a row (recurves), missed number fourteen, then got numbers fifteen, sixteen and seventeen before the season ended. I was living in MT at the time, so the above list included whitetails, mulies, elk, bear, antelope and a cougar. I also remember at least two of that string above also included two running shots. Those were the good 'ol days living in a target rich environment. BW

My friend Tim Wilson has killed 21 bucks in 22 years. After 17 bucks in a row he finally went shot less one year, and then got back in the groove. He owns 80 acres in western Pa.

When I first starting shooting a recurve (I think 1989) I killed a doe then missed a spike. Then Killed a P&Y buck and 8 more in a row with the same broadhead over a 4 year period. Sure wish I had that total concentration today lol. Lost that Zwickey on deer number 9.

I think I have killed a deer with a stickbow about 50 out of 56 years, most years multiple deer in different states. Missed a few years in college. The majority of the years killed at least one buck, some years four bucks. I also shot a few does. I never kept detailed records .

I don't know for sure how many deer I have killed in a row without a miss...likely just three or four. I'm good for a miss or two most years.
I've never failed to kill at least 1 deer a year with a bow since 1983. Take out 1983... and I can go back to 1978. I can live with 45 out of 46 years.

I recently missed at least 15 consecutive shots (maybe even more as I lost count) on the same bobwhite quail on the ground. I had three arrows with blunts - two HTM and an Ace Hex -and kept shooting and picking them up and shooting again and again as I followed it. Might have taken a pellet in a wing as it wouldn't fly but didn't appear to be injured...just a bit wacky! Finally stopped when I couldn't find one of the arrows.
I was shooting into a very strong headwind and it's a small target that waddled back and forth as it was walking away but must have been a crazy scene if anyone was watching. Most shots were very close and the second arrow actually took off a bunch of feathers and probably would have stopped it if it had been an Ace rather than a rubber blunt glancing off.

The places I have to hunt I don't even see any deer...well I never miss and my broad heads last a really long time.

I had a good run of 3 kills on 3 shots. Prior to that, I missed a few clean, here and there. High and low.
No lost animals, ever, but I have killed and wounded a few trees along the way… ;)
Now, small game… that’s a different story, but this last season, I went 6 for 6 on Pineys, but a couple of them went a day or three between the first hit and reducing them to Possession. But I left with NO unfinished business.

I have killed at least one buck with my recurve every year since 1989. Sometimes I kill 2 or 3. Got a good streak going.

So Jimmy, and others, with yearly streaks, have you had streaks of kills, followed by streaks of misses? Even though you fill a tag or two.
If I kill one this season, my yearly streak will be 5 yrs, but my kill streak will be back to 1.

I have done it all, missed, wounded, killed. I try to keep the first two to a minimum, but it does happen. I do not keep track of the numbers, or sequence. Too old to recall that far back.

Brian, for me there haven't been long runs of kills or mises with a deer season frame work. I'm kind of a fellow that might get 5 shots in a year...and kill three. I shoot far better in the warm part of the year rather than the winter when I'm bulked up with clothing.
I do remember when I first started shooting a stickbow, I missed five times in a row...all at the same cow elk at 20 yards! Never touched a hair.

In 2002 I bow hunted six times with no shot, on the seventh trip I shot a 10 1/2-year-old eight point at about 15 feet. The next trip out I shot a six point, so tagged out. The first time bow hunting in 2003 I shot a nice seven point, so three consecutive trips spanning two hunting seasons and three bucks.

Since 1972 I've gotten at least one deer every year. My streak ends this year as I haven't been able to hunt with shoulder surgery and balance issues. I'll start a new streak next year but at age 77 I doubt it will go nearly as long. LOL

I had a pretty good run from the 70's until a few years ago. 4 years ago I saw "a" doe and shot it, 3 years ago I saw "a" buck and shot it. The past 2 years very few deer seen, one shot opportunity this year but bad eyes got me.
