I am in process of acquiring a 60's K mag, low 40#. I really like the KH and the Grizzly that I had in the past and am looking forward to the shorter Kmag for a hunting bow. It should be great in the blind as well out of my ladder stand. I know that the K Mag has been used for a very long time and just wanted to see or hear about K Mag success. Thanks for any input, Jerry

I use a Kodiak Magnum, 52 lb, 1962 model. I do not have any kill pictures as I do not post them on the internet. Great bow. I also have a 58 inch Grizzly I like too. Both work well out of traditional ground blinds, trees, and pop ups. The K Mag is preferred out of the tighter pop ups.

I killed this buck with my 70's 45# Kodiak Magnum back. I was in a portable tree stand about 15 feet up and he was at 12 yards. This is the first "traditional" bow I owned and it is a great bow in my opinion.
I shot that group at 40 yards with the same bow. I don't always shoot that tight of a group at 40 yards but I did that day.
Lets see some pictures if you got them. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Nice buck Jim. And a nice bow. I have a bunch of Bear bows, but I don't own a Kodiak Magnum. I'll have to remedy that. :)

Thanks Nemo. I'll keep my eye open for a nice K Mag for you. In the mean time, you know you can shoot mine anytime you want my friend!
Thanks Randog. I don't normally shoot groups like that at 40 yards but the K Mag is more than capable of producing those results.

I was hoping Supernaut and Nemo would chime in. Awesome proof of potential accuracy. I'm leaning towards woodies and maybe some of those Sharks heads. I'm pretty lean on aluminum arrows/shafts for a low 40s# bow. I do have some 600 carbons but time will tell. Loved the pics RB.

Jerry, Hopefully Iowacedarshooter (Gerald) will see this thread and add to it. I know he's a big Kodiak Magnum fan and has killed a bunch of deer with his.
I've never shot any of the Simmons heads (Sharks) but I know guys that have and really like them. I think they will pair nicely with whatever arrow material you choose.
Let us know how you like it when you get it and start shooting it.

I realized that I have 3 or 4 of the bigger Dead Heads, I have never tried them before. I will probably have to get a new string from somewhere.

Any of you use deadheads with your Kmag? Really leaning towards them, it will be them or Bear Razorheads

@Tradslinger — do you REALLY think it makes s dime’s worth of difference?
OK. I 100% agree that there’s a practical difference between heads designed to penetrate flesh and heads designed to not plane erratically at 280 fps…. But when you’re talking about blades designed before compounds got to be faster than a good recurve…. They just aren’t that different, no matter which one tickles your fancy…
And bows?? I am not a Bear Fan, but I’ve never had one, and **apart from the Eaglewing** , I really don’t see any practical difference between one Tradbow and another. They’re ALL good. They’re all plenty powerful, and they’re ALL much more accurate than the mere humans who wield them.
We all worry too much. We all doubt too much. We all know that if we screw up, it’s on US.
There is NOTHING wrong with desiring Excellence; look at Rick, who is switching from vanes to feathers in order to hit the Best Possible Tune. He’s not worried that he can’t kill a smallish whitetail or a pig (and given that he’s shooting the equivalent of about #85, why should he be???), but he’s striving for Perfection. Not because he thinks it’s necessary, but because that’s the way the man rolls. All good. But a #30 longbow tuned well enough to hit with will kill a deer with ANY conventional broadhead, so long as it’s responsibly sharp.
Just seems like we spend a lot of energy here validating each other’s preferences and choices and too little time on what Matters — things like Form, Accuracy, and Horse Sense as to where to hold and when to shoot…. Or let down.
Just seems that the bow you’re using is the LEAST of your concerns…

Of all the people to rain on someone's parade for getting into the details of his setup..........., good grief let the man have his fun. Tradslinger bring on the details. Setting up a new bow is a lot of fun.

it's ok, I am excited about getting a new bow, one that I have never had before. As a DAV, I am used to challenges, negative people and so on. I see plenty of all of this on a regular basis at the VA Hospital. Life is still what we make it or we decide to make it. Like many here, I hope to learn more about something new to me from others that really have experiences with it. We have some awesome people here on this site to draw from their hard earned experiences. I used to tell my Special Needs students that the only stupid question is the one that you didn't ask. To be ignorant doesn't mean to be stupid, you just don't know or understand something. The last time I checked, none of us knows everything about everything. I research things until I understand or understand better. Yep, I'm a little slow sometimes but let's see how you do after multiple strokes. Shoot straight my friends and be safe out there.

I love my K Mag, Graylin Green 40 pounder. I like most short bows. Here is a pic of my American Archery X-48, it's as slow as Christmas but the "Razorhead" made up for it in no uncertain terms. Love the one your shoot'n!

Good on you for making the best of your situation and finding a way to go hunt! I would second the razorhead recommendation. The big deadheads are a big blunt chopper by comparison and at the low 40’s poundage in the real world I’d opt for the narrower head.
You have a great attitude working within your limitations rather than whining about what you don’t have, like so many folks do today. Thank you for your service and for your outreach to local youth.
Good luck with your new bow and post up some pics when you get it!

Well, I had fewer Razorheads than what I thought but I have enough Zwickys, the bigger 2 blades so I will use them on my Woodies. Is the replacement string 48" or 49"? I have seen both listed as the right size?

Selling my K Mag only because the weight is too much for me now. Killed deer with it the last two seasons. They are great bows. Still had my Super Mag and love how it shoots.
