I'm really leaning to a one piece recurve, 60" being the max for me and 38# to 45#. But, I would love to see pics of the various 1 piece recurves out there. Beauty varies so much, and while I like a beautiful bow, simple but good shooting regardless of the wood or limb materials is great too. Factory bows or customs, a great shooter is a great shooter.

Mike,

I recall receiving a nice letter from you this past summer. Thank you for that! I appreciate it.

Are you ready to sell it already, or do you just like having it as a travel companion?

From: TradToTheBone

I’ve recently acquired a used Kodiak Hunter that has become my favorite one piece ( I own several others). I previously owned 2 green 70’s Kodiak Hunters but prefer the newer version. Love the grey glass and the smaller limb tips. Very smooth drawing , quiet with good performance.

Jerry, That is by far one of the prettiest Rose Oaks that Brandon Stahl made . Brandon is by far one of the most talented bowyers fit and finish I’ve ever seen. He used to have a website and Fred and I were members on and if you only seen some of Brandon’s work you could tell he was a very dedicated bowyer who has much talent no matter what he does in life. I think he could make any bow that was ever crafted especially the late 50 and early 60 style bows and then there are some bows from the 70s he could make. I have an Ace he made me and that bow still looks like the day he made it and I will never part with it cause it has special meaning to me . Brandon is smart in his shop set up and machinery and if I remember correctly he used to work in a machine shop if that tells you anything. He used to share his risers being shaped and the limb tips being made and that itself takes talent to do.

While we are on the subject of some of our favorite one piece recurves here’s two Gordon Plastics Royal Monarchs I have . They are both made in 1961 and Rosewood .One is all Rosewood and other has the laminates running through the riser. I had to clean off yers of dirt and grime but they were in old canvas cases and has the owners name on the cases . I’ll have to go look at them to see what his name was but they came from Texas . I cleaned by hand to bring back the shine and both look like they seen very little use . How long or where they’ve been stored I’ll never know but after cleaning them up I made a set of his profile 5 line strike plates to match and even made the feather rests, strings and puffs . They are so smooth and quiet to shoot and feel so good in the hand .

James I’m just messing with you that bow of Fred’s has always cought my eye and he sold or traded it at one time but got it back I believe . We were texting each other about naming it and I think we called it “Foxy lady” or something like that .

Love the Tice & Watts!

From: Keefers
Date: 06-Dec-24

I’m going to have to take my phone and get some pictures of the Ace number 11 Brandon made for me with Bocote and Mac.Ebony “I” beam in it and post here . I had pictures on my old phone but not on this one and as Brandon mentioned a few have showed up for sale but mine is here to stay cause it has very special meaning to me . Brandon had a giveaway he did and my name got drawn for an Ace recurve . That bow feels so good in your hands for a 50s style recurve that you would almost think you are shooting a longbow with that grip. It’s not bulky and hand placement just falls into place every time. I was admiring one of Brandon’s bows up in a booth at the BBTC this past May and I was showing it to my friend and we were just about ready to pick it up to hold it when this guy came up and stepped between us and picked it up and walked away to buy it I guess. My friend and I looked at each other and I said see they don’t last long if one ever comes up for sale .

Tice & Watts bows aren't usually about gorgeous riser wood...but that one certainly is! Flat-out spectacular...and in my experience it will also out-cast any other bow in this thread. If it wasn't a lefty I'd be trying to talk David out of it!

From: TradToTheBone

Not a one piece but since we had some great Brandon Stahl bows come up. Here is a photo of a Heritage TD, the bow is 58” and @#50 at 27”. I am luck to have the wildcat also. I would love a lefty Super D. But as Brandon does not build any more finding a lefty is a long shot. Thanks - Joe

The T&W is definitely a keeper, I was lucky to find a lefty in that weight range and the quality of the wood was a bonus. ;^)
