Over 10 years ago Barry Wensel released a wonderful book on his hunting experiences called Once Upon a Tine. It went out of print, and I was fortunate that he asked me to help do a second printing. After some work on both our ends, I'm happy to say that it is now available for purchase. This is the same book that was published in 2010, made available for a new generation of readers. It can be purchased on Amazon, in both soft cover or ebook, or directly from Barry at [email protected]. It's not often a guy gets to work with an absolute legend of the sport. I told Barry he needs to keep writing, as his experiences were at a time and place that will never happen again.

I have that book. Actually, I have all the Wensel's books and videos. They are all excellent. You can't go wrong with a book or DVD from Barry or Gene.

Always loved the brothers. They made statements in Trad hunting, they backed them up. Plus loved the sideways hat and the "explanation." Loved watching them and reading what they wrote. Awesome collection Nemo, envious for sure. Glad for the books being made available

I was wondering if they are still hunting. I know they both had health problems and Gene's wife has had some health problems.

My favorite part in that book was the story of him shooting a grizzly in the butt with a rubber blunt to get it to leave. I brought that up to him at ETAR and he retold the story. Hilarious!!

I have several of there books Treestand Strategies,Once upon a Tiny & Buckskin and Bone & 1 video Bowhunting October Whitetail. They are great reads and informative videos, but both brothers are interesting characters and have contributed to the Traditional Archery community tremendously. Both are class acts ! Better to see and hear them in person if you could.

Bob, I didn't feel like pulling out all my Gene and Barry stuff. I have other books and DVDs about them. I met Gene and Barry Wensel at a seminar they gave near Pittsburgh, Pa. back in the mid-1990s. Both are down to earth good guys. I was surprised Barry remembered me from that long ago. He wrote in his newest book that I bought he remembered me.

Both Barry and Gene are as lovely a set of guys as you could hope to meet. They are the real deal on every level. I have a few commercial products, sat through a few of Barry's talks, and been to Africa with Gene. One of my favorite possessions is my armguard autographed by Barry.

I figured more people would get excited about this, I always loved the part about " You gotta be tough to be stupid." Seems like it had to do with a water park ride failure to obey the rules. And they had some great Tee Shirts as well. Awesome guys

The twins are both talented writers with a wealth of information that they willingly share. I also enjoyed their writings in the various magazines, including the PBS publication. They were a bit more prolific writers when a little younger, and with humor and more than occasionally with some bite to what they typed.

I, too, met them at an Idaho sponsored get-together In Ontario, Oregon in mid- winter. By summer, my 18-year-old daughter hunted with them both in South Africa and Zimbabwe. I never would have believed we could have pulled that off. All credit belongs to them. Great company, sportsmen, funny as heck, and gentlemen to my archery, but not bow hunting daughter.

Now I would have given them five stars plus, and put them in the genius category had they been able to come up with a decent cup of cowboy coffee in all of Africa while we were there...!

Note: I should clarify, my daughter and I both went to Africa. She is an avid trad archer who roves and target shoots, but doesn’t hunt, and has passed on to her young son and daughter the joy of the flight of the arrow. She sat the blinds daily with me and took thousands of photos.

At the airport on the return flight in Atlanta as we said our goodbyes at the round table with Barry and Gene, over beer and real coffee, she whispered in my ear that she was not sure which one of the twins she wanted to marry. To this day, I think they both thought it was the coffee I was choking on.
