I bleed Black Widow & Leon Stewart bows...Have several....all quiet...I also have a Shrew L'l Favorite (54") that sounds like a bucket of cans. I shoot split finger and have silencers at the 6/10 spots. I have a brace height at 8 1/3 inches and it puts the string contact right at the end of the string grove. Very noisy...If I set the brace height at 8" , the recommended brace height, the string / limb contact runs well past the end of the string grove. Any thoughts....Thanks...Harley

Well....I shoot the brace height that is the most quiet and I don't care what the measurement is or what it looks like. I also am not concerned with moving mt string silencers around to where the bow is the most quiet.

Raise the brace. You might try a different material string. What weight is your Shrew? I have been wanting to try one.>>>>----> Ken

My Shrew came with a "Whisper String".

i just got a 52" classic Hunter, and had the exact same problem. My Brace Height is right around 73/4 and I have 4 silencers at the 1/4 and 1/3 marks. I started out at 7" for my brace height, and kept increasing till the "rattle" went away. When my race height was low, it was loud.

Thank you all for the help.... I am concerned with the string being longer than the string grooves....It sure is noisy...Tom....I have a whisper string as well....Be safe...

"I am concerned with the string being longer than the string grooves"....why?

I’ve had 5 Shrew bows, still have 2 of them. I haven’t had a loud one. I use the 6 strand 450+ stings that Shrew provided for years, brace height is the recommended 7” for longbows, silencers are 13” from the end of the string. I would give Tim Cosgrove a call and ask him, he knows shrew bows better than anyone.

Is the arrow making/contributing to the noise? I had a 58" Super Shrew. While it wasn't noisy with any of the arrows I tried, it definitely has its favorites. Mine was set up with the whisper string and two of the Two Tracks wool felt silencers.

I would think your 8 1/3" brace height is within reason, if they recommend 8".

Low Brace / long string is where all the slap is. Rick likes to thread ear plugs on the string just a hair below where the string rests on the limb. The end of the string groove is a fair place to start with your brace height. You don't have to use it all. We file those things in with no string on the bow. ;^) >>>---> Ken

fdp....I figured if the string is past the string grooves it is hitting the flat part of the limb making the brace height too long even with the recommended brace height. I knew Ron for a long time and when I bought my Shrew from him he told me not to have the string contact point past the end of the string groove,,,,Thanks everyone for the info.....Be safe...Harley

Harley a higher brace will move the string up out of the groove. Less contact for a quieter bow. >>>----> Ken

Find a heavier arrow, where I went from a 8 gpp arrow to a 11 gpp for my shrew it got quiet in an instant.

Ron definitely knew his bows.

Ken..I get it but I'm already past the recommended BH....Pawel...I'll try a heavier arrow...Thanks all.....Harley

Thanks for the advice...Went to a heavier arrow...No difference....Went an inch past the recommended brace height...No difference...Moved silencers...no difference...Decided to make it a Wall Hanger since it has Ron's name on it....No worries...My heart belongs to Black Widow anyway.....Be safe & wear your safety belt....Harley

What is your nocking point? Change it and see what happens. Change the string. Try different arrow spine. Different bows even if same weight may require different arrow spines, BH, string, etc

Harley, I have a 60” Shrew and shoot it at my 30” draw that was not a problem to tune to quietness. And nowhere near as a challenge as were both Black Widow longbows I have and they were probably the most difficult bows I have had to quiet. I ended up with double cat whiskers on both ends and wrapped the string loops, and shot heavy wood arrows to get them to where I could live with what I thought was their noise. Their performance was great and built like tanks and were my go-to hunting bows, but at 57 lbs. and a couple of injuries and old age, I had to step down in weight about 8-10 lbs. for more personal enjoyment.

Some good suggestions and like it was said, we are all individuals and while my Widows sounded like cannons going off toe at times, my archery shooting daughter said they weren’t bad at all...

The one I had wasn't quite either. fixed it by selling it off.
