I have only messed with this once so any help would be appreciated. First, what measurement do you use for center cut on an asl? Next, I have an arrow and point combination that flies perfectly. It is a 1716 aluminum cut 28" with a 145 grain point. I don't hunt with it, just targets and stumps so I want to figure out a carbon arrow and point combination that would tune as good but would be 50 to 70 grains lighter. The aluminum drop quite a bit on far targets, 40 yards. I haven't played with the calculator much but it looks like if I plug my arrow set up into it, it should give me the spine of my set up and then I could just play with the carbon arrow length and point weight until I get the spines to match. Is that correct or is there more to it then that?

Are you going to measure the actual centershot or use a generic number? Generically ASL's are TYPICALLY 1/8" Before center.

Your assessment is pretty well right.

FDP X 2 Best to measure to buy arrows though. To duplicate your arrow a 1716 is 880 spine at 28". That sounds like a lot of weight up front for such a light arrow. If you are looking for the flattest trajectory you might go down another notch in spine & go to a lighter weight point. That would give you an even bigger weight reduction. You shooting 30-35 pounds? >>>----> Ken

Yes, 36#. I was thinking that an 800 spine carbon but 30" long. That would shave off 50 grains or 70 grains if I could get them to tune with 125 grain points. Also I will try the 1/8" Frank.

Just remember it is 1/8" BEFORE center, not past center.

Thanks for the help. I plugged the numbers in for the arrow that I am shooting and it calculated the two spine numbers within 1 of each other. Entered the numbers in for the carbon with the same weight point and again the two spine numbers were about 1 apart. I shot that bare shaft and it also shot perfectly. It ended up only being 40 grains lighter though so not much of a gain. The good news is I can use either arrow. Thanks for you help with this experiment.

Glad it worked for you.
