Nice to meet you all. I'm beginning to shoot my grandfather's 1971 Bear Super Grizzly. Shooting religiously, trying to figure it out. Putting in over 30 shots a day around 10-12 yards, and Im definitely figuring it out. Being a compound shooter, this is something totally different, and it makes me feel closer to the woods than ever before. Looking to slock some deer with it this year on public land ground hunting with some self prepped arrows. Turkey fletchings with wraps on a Gold Tip Blemished arrow, and a 175g broadhead of some sort. Heard some good stuff about Simmons Swamp Sharks. If you have any tips for a rookie, let me know!

Jump in with both feet! when you don't know something or are unsure, simply ask for help. Just understand that you will get a lot of answers and for the most part, most will work or at least explain it to where you will understand. Good luck and may your arrows fly straight and true.

Welcome to the 'wall! Everybody on here can offer good advice, in one way or another. Don't hesitate to ask.
When asking for arrow recommendations, be sure to give the bow weight at your true draw length!

Well some my best memories where with a late 70's Super Grizzly! To be honest, I didn't know they made it in the early 70's but I guess they did. Best advice is the most important consideration, the correct arrows spine for you & bow! Regardless of material, that's preference, but I know it's not hard to find a good shooting arrow for that bow, rather forgiving to me! And oversized is usually not a problem, but beware of being undersigned! If you're totally new to shooting traditional without sights? As long as you're HUNGRY to learn you will, put your heart in it! It's easier to learn new, than correcting old bad habits later! Just get close, concentrate on your chosen form, anchor release, but also that total focus on a teeny spot is all you have to think of, then accuracy will follow! Don't let frustration get you later, after you've been gaining confidence, then one day seems you've lost it all? You'll find that it's probably not you're shooting but your lack of true focus on execution the way you had already learned! Let in close practice of form and follow thru become fluid repetition, and accuracy will folliw!

I mentor new shooters in our trad club, and would be glad to visit over the phone and answer a few questions if you like. I might be able to answer a few arrow and shooting form questions. I mentor a number of folks who shoot compound and try traditional...and as you've seen, it's a different deal. I'll PM.

Bear started making the Super Grizzly from 1973-1976 in Grayling. They had the Victor label above the Super Grizzly label. They brought it back again in 2011. bvd

I have a vintage Super Grizzly that's 60 lbs. at 28 inches. It's a rugged, good shooting bow. My wife had to special order it, because the shop only had compounds in stock.
