I agree mostly. Not on BH 8-3/8" for me. 62 with the gray glass, pointed tips and most have a nice riser .

Bear archery was incorrect when he listed recommended brace at 7 to 8"? It is a "recommended" brace ramge but every brace height archers list as best for their Kmags are 8+ irregardless of draw length. I feel it has become a know perception these bows have to be braced at over 8.

I have a few Bear Kodiak Magnums, favorite is a 1962. I am a glutten for punishment.
These bows are hard to shoot with consistent accuracy over 20 yards. To qualify that, I consider consistent accuracy 5" diameter 19 out of 20 shots. That is arbitrary andjust my opinion. These bows are great treestand hunting bows inside 20 yards.
I have found the following to be helpful:
1. If you have a short draw under 27 they do not pinch. The early catalogs had maximum draw lengths at 31" all other Bear bows were 33". 2. They are easier to draw with split finger. This could be due to tbe short limb length and Kmags are much more sensitive to balance on draw. 3. I shoot 3 under and placing a rest above the shelf allows for my fingers to pull a more centered even pull like split finger position, to allow for less loading tbe bottom limb. 4. The bow is more sensitive to a properly tuned arrow and correct brace heigt it quiets right down. Catalog has 7"-8" brace listed. I have found 7 3/8 works for 26" draw. Many have said over 8" upwards of even 9". 5. Kmag is more sensitive to follow through.
These observations are typically the same for most bows and I guess I could have summed it up in one sentence. They are more sensitive, much less forgiving.

I didn't notice the ogp was Draven. Grey glass on the new K Mag. Might scratch an itch.

I have a 45# K-mag and I can shoot it pretty good, but I found that it is one bow that I definitely keep a bow quiver mounted on it, because it needs a little extra weight, I guess, to tame it down a little and make it less sensitive. But it can be shot well.
And kind of funny story: Last fall, I was recovering from hurting my elbow, and was struggling some with my shooting, but had managed to kill two previous deer with recurves and decided to take my K-mag hunting, after shooting it some and thought it would be really handy for this one tree stand. Well, it was really all me, but I missed a little buck, because I had to lean out around another tree, in front of me, to take a shot, where I had previously been successful at taking a deer with my Black Widow with almost the same identical shot, only a few days, before. I was all out of position and my form was bad, and that little K-Mag jumped to the side a little and I missed. I should have waited for a better shot, but the deer was pretty nervous, and I shot.
I was so aggravated, that I threw the K-mag out of the tree onto the ground. I didn't even scratch it, but anyway, it was getting dark, so I climbed down and went home. (:
However, I do think the K-mag can be a fine bow for the close quarters of a blind, etc.

Last- I cnt imagine pulling that shot off with such a short bow. I noticed it is a torquey little bow especially with the pistol grip models. If i can remember to continue to push with bowhand it helps alot.

iowacedarshooter, That is a great picture of your gorgeous K Mag and I know that bow has been good to you over the years.
My K Mag is the first "traditional" bow I bought and I shot the heck out of it daily getting ready for hunting season. I shot field rounds with it that summer at targets up to 80 yards. I didn't always shoot great at those longer distances but that was my fault and not the bows.
Here is a picture of a group at 40 yards (I don't normally shoot this good at 40 yards but I did this day so I took a picture) and the buck I killed that first season I hunted with my K Mag.
A lot of people don't like short bows, I do as I think they make me a better shot with any bow.

I shoot my Kmags well. Last week, shooting at my backyard bales, 18 to 20 yards. I had to shoot at separate spots, because of hitting two shafts, at the nock. Was using rear tapered cedars. Bow is a 48lb, 1962 model.

I missed a deer low with my Kodiak Mag, also missed a deer low with my ILF recurve. I can miss just fine with either bow, but the Kodiak Mag is easier to carry through brush.

As much as I would like a shorter bow I can’t shoot them well enough to be confident in a hunting situation. Don’t know why, weather it’s a Bear, BW, Browning, Pearson, my arrows are all over. It’s a shame, so many great bows out there.

I must be a lucky one. I don’t have any complaints about my Kodiak Magnums or other short bows. In fact, I prefer bows 58” and under. I’m just a target shooter so I can’t discuss hunting situations with the rest of you that hunt about bow length and maneuverability in the forests. But I can attest to the accuracy of these bows as long as I do my part. Lance
