Just figured that I would start a thread like this that people could add to, and maybe people could reference back to, that might encourage others to give the fiberglass bows a shot when it comes to hunting. I will start off with a few that I have killed. Wish that I would have started hunting with them occasionally a little sooner.

Congrats Pat! Awesome post. Will be following:)

A very underrated bow today. That could get someone started in bow hunting for a very reasonable amount of $$$. Congrats again buddy. Well done!

This is traditional archery, at its best! Just awesome that you took these critters with a Paul Bunyan fiberglass bow!

From: tradslinger
Date: 13-Feb-24

cool is cool and this is very cool! not going to be a lot of modern hunters doing this.

I'm sure you've been asked many times but how many pounds you pullin? Great shots buddy

From: pdk25
Date: 13-Feb-24

All of the kills except one were made with a Paul Bunyan 100, drawn somewhere close to 51# at 30". The two larger boars both had full penetration, and the arrows fell out/passed through, after around 20-25 yards. The other kill was a decent sow with a Paul Bunyan 300 drawn a little over 70#, that I got from Don Lewis in exchange for an older Buck 119.

Very cool. I'm hopin to see more posts and pictures. Always glad to see the solid glass bows

Maybe we should have a leather wall all fiberglass bow challenge;)

Hmmm. A couple got removed. See if I can post them again.

Still too big. 640 on one longest side by 480.

From: pdk25
Date: 13-Feb-24

That was what they were resized for, 640 on the longest size. I guess I will try again.

They were both 640x480. I made the largest size 480 this time. Hopefully there won't be any more problems.

I am sure I was doing something wrong, just no clue what it was.

Very impressive that you took those animals with that bow! I have a nice Pearson model 304, 50#, that I have been thinking about taking hunting. Now I have the inspiration, lol

From: pdk25
Date: 14-Feb-24

Not greatness from me, lol. Honestly these bow shoot as good as alot of the bows out there. Just trying to get some appreciation for these bows and encourage others to give them a try..

From: the Black Spot
Date: 14-Feb-24

Aww shucks! Yeah nothing great here. Like Patrick said, under appreciated bows. Especially the Pearsons and Bunyans. I know there’s others out there by Indian and Bear.

Medium boar from Georgia last week of June. Hit him a little too far back. Buzzards got an eye before we found him.

I used to take a lot of stuff with one I had, including a cottonmouth and a few fish/frogs. I thought back then that it was as good as it got. I still think that they are quite the great deal, cost is awesome and they last for years even with minimum maintenance as we have found out. Heck, they can slide behind the seat in the old truck without thought. I camo painted several for hunting, looked more serious that way than how they were. They were always fun to shoot and back in the day, they were a serious weapon for hunting and still are. There will always be those that look down on them but that's their loss. I can still remember picking up the one my dad had picked up somewhere, felt like a real bow hunter as I looked at the broadheads of the arrows that came with it. Well done Patrick and Tony

Nice Patrick! That a bodkin point on that arrow?

From: Don T. Lewis

Yup the old Green Paul Bunyan. A very underestimated bow. Some might call it a sleeper or a plain Jane;)

Tony, that is a discontinued vented vpa 1 1/4" 3 blade.

From: ottertails
Date: 10-Jul-24

That's so cool pdk and Tony. Yeah those old fiberglass bows can get it done. A Pearson was my very first store bought bow.. 1966, took a shot at a cottontail along the railroad tracks ...so did my buddies with similar bows...we all missed but my arrow ricocheted of the track and hit that bunny. A most glorious day of a budding bowhunter at 9 years of age. Was nicknamed "Ricochet Rabbit" after that, a popular cartoon back then.

That was my only kill with it tho I sure enuf bruised and pissed off plenty of city squirrels...(when the neighbors weren't looking)..:))

Congrats on those kills!

From: Don T. Lewis
Date: 11-Jul-24

Pat and Tony just showed us. It’s not the bow. It’s the man behind the bow. Outstanding fellas! But I’m afraid the price of Paul Bunyan bows have just gone up on the Big auction site. I heard through the grape vine Frisky has the largest collection of Paul Bunyans on here. He’s got a barrel full of them;)

From: Dantheman
Date: 11-Jul-24

That is awesome. I’d love to find a fiberglass bow in the low to mid 40s at 28. Congrats on harvests

From: pdk25

I am having 2 of my Paul Bunyans converted into takedowns for travel. I will probably make a post when I get them.

I really like this thread. As a youngster in the late 60's and early 70's, I would always go to the sporting goods department at the retail store and look at those fiberglass bows...Pearson bows if I remember correctly.

I think it was just the dreaming I did about the bows that made me a bowhunters a few years later. Good memories....
