Great find! There’s really good steel in that blade. On a side note: I hate it when they use tape on the leather! Lance

That’s exactly why you should check out those thrift stores. I agree with Lance. That is a great score! Did you check eBay sold prices on that 225Q? I think you might be surprised what they go for. Yours looks to be in really nice condition. And having the original sheath is a big plus on those WWII military knives. Congrats!:)

That should clean up nicely. I use a Dremel tool and a Flitz compound.

Nice!

An overnight Kroil 'soak' & brass wool rubbin will help remove the oxidation without doing any further damage. Win-win.

KROIL is great stuff. I used to mix it in with my solvent for getting under the copper fouling in my match rifles.

Great find! I had two of those, just like that, since I was a kid, supposably, brought back from WWII by my uncle. The leather washer handles were rotted off of both of them, when I found them as a kid, in some of my dad's junk.

And yes, I made a few homemade scabbards for one of them, as a kid and did the electrical tape handle bit. Eventually, I lost that one, several years ago. But I still have the other one. I used that self-vulcanizing tape for the handle on the second one. That made a great handle, but maybe not that pretty. It's been a fine knife, for cutting the strings and net-wrap off of my round bales, when feeding cattle.

I keep it lashed to the front end loader on my tractor. I use it hard, and have to sharpen it, often, usually with a file, as it dulls fairly quickly, dragging it across so many bales of hay.

Anyway, I have had it for about 60 years, now. I wish I knew where the missing one was.

I actually have 2 of these knifes, one of them had dried out rotten leather in the handle so I stripped it off and saved all of the metal components so I could replace the leather disks. I don’t think I’ll ever get around to doing so and if there is somebody that wants to restore it send me a PM, you can have it for the postage. Cotton

I just refurbished the handle on this 225Q. It came out pretty good I think for the first time attempting this.

You can get a knife handle kit from KABAR. It only cost $7 bucks. Shipping was &10. It’s a nice kit. I would buy another.
