Today I'm reminding myself how thankful I need to be. It's my birthday, I turned 74. I'm still able to get out in the timber, cut wood, hunt from my ladder stands, and enjoy life. So many of my friends are either gone now or unable to do much. Life is still a blessing.

Me Too, and A HAPPY BIRTHDAY to You.

Hey, JusPassin, is this where I say you are just getting started? I turned 74 this year and finally retired three weeks ago. Now the work really begins.

It is about attitude and keeping moving. You've got both and will do well. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, and thank you for the reminder that we should find reasons to be thankful everyday, even if it's in the small things like being able to ascend into a tree stand, or just get into the woods.

I'll be 78 in just a little over a month from now, yesterday I did some rather steep hills and did some shooting as well. Life is what you make of it, as is aging. If you've been blessed with good health and mobility, just don't sit around waiting for it to go away, because it will. As an aside, I saw the biggest coyote yesterday that I had ever seen before. He had been hiding in a cover of multiflora rose and likely watching me come around the ridge into his territory. Big old bugger that looked more like the gray wolf in his bloodline than any coyote.

Congratulations, happy birthday. Wish I could say the same about getting out and about. George is correct, use or lose it, I have to an extent. Took the wrong advise regarding my back issues, paying for it now.

Happy Birthday Bruce I hope you have many more! I really enjoyed shooting with you and Stan, Dalen, and the guys from Clara City; good times. I got Lymes Disease this summer it really set me back, to rounds of antibiotics with no results. I struggled to shoot a 40 lb bow. I shot a nice buck on Nov. 2nd it really gave my body a work out. I drug him 125 yds to river without field dressing him, threw him river and floated and pulled him with my kayak for a 1/2 mile. I was very thankful that at my age I could do that, I looked to the sky and gave the Good Lord a high five. You are more then right thats it a blessing. Cherish it Bruce and have A great day.

Happy Birthday Bruce. I suspect that with continued clean living and love and support of family, you will enjoy many more. I met several friends from Iowa who enjoy long lives from a lifetime of rural living, values, hard work in the fresh air and Iowa beef cattle!

I have had 4 knee replacements, my legs barely bend, going up and down steps and hills is not only painful, it can be dangerous. I trip on almost everything. Some tell me it is time to slow down or give up archery.

But I keep going, I can not quit doing the things I enjoy, like shooting my bow, especially in competitions. I force myself to keep going.

Most of the time I am with people younger than me. They walk faster and climb the hills easily while I struggle to keep up. Sometimes they slow their pace and wait for me, sometimes they do not. But that’s okay, I keep going.

Does the thought of quitting ever enter my mind, yes, often. But when I am lagging behind and questioning my ability to keep up with the younger ones and questioning my ability to continue, I ask myself an important question.

“If this was to be the last time I would ever shoot an arrow or compete in an event, would I quit, never shoot or compete again?”

The answer is always no, I would not quit if I knew I would never shoot another arrow or never get to compete again, so I force myself to ignore the pain and take another step, one step at a time, then take another step, and hopefully shoot another good arrow.

Never never quit!

Happy Birthday Bruce.

I'll be 76 next month. My son and I got in the truck and drove to Alaska this summer. 9,500 miles up the Alcan Highway ran out of places to stay had to set up the tent. On the way home we came down the Cassiar highway 450 miles thru the mountains, rivers, and wildlife all wilderness. Drove 25 miles thru forest fires. A trip of a life time.

When I was 20, a person that was 40 was old...when I turned 40 I thought people that are 60 are old ..when I turned 60... I'm blessed that I can do pretty much what I did 30 years ago but now that I'm older I realize how delicate life is and it can change quick.. I think staying active, if you can, is important. My Dad turns 95 Tuesday..his mind is sharp as a tack..I'm thankful he's still with us

Happy birthday and as I get older (64) those are my sentiments as well. At times I feel the amount of friends I've lost in the last 20 years has been unusually high and I know the older we get the more we lose. Lost one of my best friends when he was only 48. He was a great guy, smart, funny and left behind a wife and 11yr old son. So yeah I think about how fortunate it is to actually get older. You have to appreciate every sunrise and sunset you witness from the field.

Yep, Happy Birthday You Old Geezer!! I'll be 70 pretty soon. This past labor day I fell off of a ladder on My right shoulder. The fourth time I hurt this one in My life. Went to a specialist who was about 50 and He looked at the x-rays and had a good laugh. He said the good news is you won't need surgery and it will take twelve weeks for it to heal . because of the previous injuries it's not so bad....I waited a week and started pulling the kids 15lb bow.little by little I'm getting back where I want to be. Stay strong and busy.
