Sitting in my dentist office at 7:55 AM waiting to get a cavity filled I decided to check Craigslist. I always filter Craigslist by posted today, hide duplicates, has image. My experience has shown that if something is a really good deal it wont last but a few hours.

To my surprise a picture of a bow shows up with a five dollar price and a phone number. It had been listed ten minutes earlier. I call and discover the bow is two miles away and the owner had picked it out of a garbage can a few hours earlier.

I gave him the $5 and brought her home. Strung it, shot it, limbs are straight and shoots fine. Haven't decided if I am going to strip the camo paint off or leave it. I am going to clean it up enough to read the specs when I get time. Looks to be a Grayling Grizzly around 45#. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Good enough story to be re-told!

Just a little envious… and I’m not even a Bear guy ;)

Excellent deal on a great bow.

My wife picked up an old bow at a yard sale for $10, I could tell it was a Bear but it was black from years of hanging on the rack close to kitchen where they fried a lot of food.

The limbs were straight and it didn't have a string. I got out my naphtha and a rag and started cleaning, the grime was set like concrete.

It took me two days to get the crud off which hid an absolutely pristine Bear Grizzly. It was a lefty and I am a righty so I sold it, the new owner was very pleased with a bow in this shape.

I have a $5.00 Super Kodiak that I sent to BowDoc, now it’s a brand new 1970 Super Kodiak. Best find ever!

At the time I knew nothing about bows but thought I’d like to shoot a longbow and bought an unusual looking one at a Flea Market for $20 after I’d talked the guy down from 25. Turned out to be a “Grumley Deerslayer” best deal I ever made! Cotton

Two years ago, the guy who was working on our siding found an Epiphone Les Paul, Jr. in a trash can. He brought it along because he knew I played. I gave him $40.00 for it and he was happy. I cleaned it up, set the neck and put on new strings. A month later I sold it to a lady for her son who wanted to get into playing. She got it for what I had in it so was very happy. You never know what's going to show up at your door some time.

That’s awesome, all I ever found in the trash was trash.

Cool great deal Every ounce in a while,a guy can run across a great deal. Of course pictures would be nice, if they were working right. JF

Why would anyone throw a bow away? Why not just give it to somebody. I have to wonder how many Bear take downs and Grummleys that just ended up in the garbage can:(

At least this story has a happy ending. Great find. Good luck with the new bow.

I can tell you guys first hand that people throw away some really cool stuff! Every now and then the stuff gets saved before being buried in a landfill? It's too bad that people don't take more time to relocate stuff instead of just hauling it to the curb?

My boss was cleaning out his uncle's house and found a 30.40 Krag covered in cosmoline, wrapped in paper and never been shot. He threw it on the dump. He didn't want anyone to get hurt with it. bvd

My wife bought a Remington 870 .410 at a garage sale years ago for $60. It was in mint condition and she didn't want it in her house.

Found a $500 stihl chainsaw in a dumpster. It had been dropped in water. New plug and gas and fired right up.

Off archery.

A guy posted a youtube vid years ago of his Pioneer SX1980 Stereo Receiver he found at Goodwill for like a $100. That 1980 vintage Pioneer SX1980 is in the top five 'best' receivers of all time, including today. And it's certainly one of the most sought after receivers ever made. And some audiophiles rate it 'the' best stereo receiver ever manufactured. ~ an $8K find.

OP here again trying to post pic of the $5 bow that was saved from the trash collector. Still deciding if I am going to strip it or just clean up the riser enough to see if the original specs are under the camo paint. Good Day

Like Black Spot, found a chainsaw at the landfill. Wasn't a Stihl, but a Poulon Pro. No chain and missing the bar nuts. Cleaned up the carb, new plug, tuned it up and got the hardware. Its a cutting machine.
