I didn't see one started yet for this season and ours in MD starts early Sept so here goes.
I got lucky the first Saturday on my first hunt and this fat doe gave me a shot from a natural Brush blind. The 190 grain Ribtek did the job well and she was down in about 60 yards. Temps were 70 degrees and climbing at the shot and I was a sweaty mess by the time I dragged her out. Happy with how the season is going so far! Northern Mist American 48 pounds at my draw. Arrow went through chest and stopped at top of offside blade.

t4h, well done, and thanks for an inspirational doe with a LB, I'm finally soaring high with my new HH Cheetah, shooting judos mostly right where I'm looking in the woods! I've been 3 times, not even seen a deer yet. But have had plenty bear action several times, even a cub climbing my tree! Almost got a shot at a turkey this morning. Loving it!

Opening morning for me and again in the evening. Bagged two does.
In the morning I shot a young deer, it will be good eating but I was shocked when I found it, because it was pretty small. I got fooled and didn't think about the size, and of course everything looks different from in a tree, and I had to shoot quick and didn't account for the size. I would have let it walk if I had realized it.
I shot this one with my Bear Green Strip TD, 41 pound. I made a pretty lousy shot but got the deer anyway.

Then, I went back this afternoon and this time I took my Black Widow 45# recurve, because I realized that my arrows with the broadheads were not flying nearly as well as I thought they were out of my old Bear Green Strip.
I ended up having a small window to shot through, to connect on this doe. And I still screwed up and hit this deer too far forward. It was a hard shoulder shot, and I could tell by the sound at impact and apparent lack of penetration, judging by how much arrow shaft was still sticking out that I was in trouble.
I sat back down and mentally beat up on myself for the next 30 minutes or so. I really didn't have much hope of finding this deer. I decided I better go ahead and start looking for this deer, before I ran out of daylight. I took a compass reading where I lost sight of the deer and proceeded to follow the heading since there was not blood. I walked a hundred yards or so, then turned around and took a slight different compass reading and went back the other direction, and finally found a little blood. The deer had turned down hill on me, and I took another compass reading on the direction of the blood trail, lost trail and found it again at the fence line. Frankly I had about gave up hope when there was not more blood but I kept the compass heading and found her in the bottom of a draw, about another 50 yards or so farther.
All I can say is the arrow did a lot more damage than I expected, and in this isolated instance, I do believe my heavy arrow and long single bevel broadhead did save the day for me, because it sure wasn't my markmenship. I was so disgusted with my shot placement, but hey, I still got the deer.
Two deer in one is not bad for me. Hopefully, I will shoot better next time, and save the long tracking job.

I found the broadhead inside the deer, It came off the arrow when I pulled the arrow out of the shoulder. The broadhead held up really good, I thought. I will reattach it and sharpen it again and I think it will be good to go again.

First deer of the year. Almost didnt go hunting - I felt bad about playing hookie from work. But, The memory was worth it!

I got this bear back on August 8 with the Compton guys with Homer Ocean Charters. We had a great hunt with 4 bears for 8 guys. 3 others had shots as well. I saw 12 bears myself while hunting. Besides the bear hunting awesome scenery we caught halibut, rockfish and salmon.
Once again I used my 'Robertski" recurve. Robertson riser with homemade limbs.

She ran a 50 yard fish hook. Showed no sign of being hit. Stomped and blew a few times. Walked into a clearing at 18-20 broadside, 2nd arrow hit low behind left foreleg, above brisket, ran 125+/-.

Made a heart shot on this Ol gal and she made it 45 yards or so. The arrow hit the offside leg and broke in her. Hunting from the ground in a funnel.

60@30"Black Widow. 80-85 23/64 self tapered ceder shaft from Lost Nation. Zwickey Delta sharpened on a on a Harbor Freight 1x30 belt sander. Easy pass thru on a fat 2 /12 year old farm country buck. The deer had passed by out of range. I grunted one time and he came back at a sprint and stood broadside at about 24 paces. Just a bit far for me but it felt perfect. I don't recall letting go of the string. That was the first shot opportunity in 4 weeks.

I stuck this arrow in to show the track of the pass thru. The last couple minutes of hunting on a weeknight. The deer would have walked by too far away but came running in at a full sprint to just one grunt call and pulled up. He was slightly 1/4 away at 22-24 paces. Which is a bit far for me these days. After a 30 second or so stand-off. I drew on what felt like a confident shot. Oddly, I remember being very controlled thru the entire experience. Thinking about distance, limb clearance, deer positioning, tracking conditions, darkness closing in fast, plenty of season remaining. It was all very clear. I remember being at full draw and anchored and feeling like I was lined up perfectly. Even though all that is easy to remember, I don't recall the release! It was that last moment of shooting light and I couldn't see the arrow in flight or impact. As the buck did his 30-40 yard run I was thinking that I didn't hear the arrow make contact. But his tail was flicking quickly and he stopped and stood just 30-40 yards aways. Then fell over. Whew!!
My bow is BW PTF 60lb@30", Cedar shaft from Lost Nation and a 135 Zwickey Delta.
The arrow was stuck in the ground.

My 14 year old son got this one a few days ago after school. 7 yard shot 40 yard recovery. He call his papa (my dad) to help him get it back to the house. By the time I got home from work they already had it skinned. All I had to do was fry the tenderloins my wife already had taters and biscuits ready to go with it. But oh the hunting stories that were told over dinner was priceless.

Filled my land owners tag the other night. Snort weased this guy in from 150yrds out. Gave me a 15yrd shot. Had an exit hole, which made for easy tracking. He went maybe 100yrds or so. I was using a Bear A mag with #1limbs 48lbs and 2016s with Zwickey Eskimos, 2 blades.

soap creek, that's a beautiful buck. I'm a believer in the snort wease on the more dominant bucks of the area. Mine is certainly not as big but he did respond from about the same distance and he was the biggest of the 6 I saw that day. Also had a great experience with a good buck last year with the snort wease.

Northern Missouri. Very few acorns so we set up on a steep dry creek bed. He worked by me at 5 yards (no shot) making a scrape and a few rubs. I would have never had a shot but he caught a whiff of me and bounded out. The shot ended up being 30 yards. He was definitely a scrapper as he broke off a sticker and his left G4.

Hatrick, I had dropped my grunt call, it was laying on the ground. I left my rallting horns back at the house. I snort weased with my mouth. That was my only option for calling. LOL! Work out great. I guess you have to work with what you got. Yooper thats a DANDY buck. We live in southern Iowa and I think northern Missouri is often over looked. Congrats.

Thanks guys. 3rd time down there. We live in a hotel for a week and do all our own work. I have a hell of a time each time we go. I gain too much weight at the Mennonite buffet in town…
Beautiful country down there.

Great to see so many out and "harvesting." Unfortunately I shot under a nice sized doe Friday evening from an unexpected successful stalk. This little piggy was not as lucky. The arrow is stuck in the bone at the point of the shoulder. Easy trail to follow, and short. Same bow all season so far. Original Ben Graham Hummingbird marked 60@28 and 61" Amo. GT 400 trad arrow shaft, with 150 grain Rocky Mountain Supreme.
