When I was growing up, magazines occupied a lot of my reading time. I read magazines like Guns & Ammo, Field & Stream, Outdoor Life. When TBH hit newsstands it pretty much dominated the aforementioned mags. But nothing got me wide eyed like hunting, fishing and camping catalogs.
Man, did I turn those pages making mental notes of what I needed to help me take my next buck or if there’s a term for window shopping vía catalogs someone chime in. One of my go to items as a teenage Bowhunter was this Marco’s Deer Hunter Soap. I found it on Etsy and ordered a bar. If soap has a shelf life then this product probably met it. It doesn’t smell bad, matter of fact it doesn’t smell at all. What I do remember smelling is the anise oil. I use to get mine from Sportsman’s Guide. If anyone has used it and familiar with it, is there another brand that comes close to it?
I’ll appreciate any input anyone may have.

Isn’t that the soap that Art LaHa sold. He was famous for running a deer hunting camp in the U.P.
Have you ever watched the movie Da Moonlight in Escanaba?

Yep, I had some of that back in the early 70's. I never washed with it, however, I did find it worked very well to attract deer. I also have that movie, "Escanaba in Da Moonlight" !!

My wife makes our soap, so basic ingredient and then whatever essential oil she decides for that bar. The Anise is okay, I use it in a cover spray with cedar oil and pine oil. As for todays soaps there is a green soap made by scent-a-way. I don't know if it actually does any good, but I use that some and pair it with the essential oil cover spray.

Sure do. Fond memories of when I first started deer hunting. Smelled like black licorish if I remember correctly. It was also the time "skunk scent" was the new rage.

Along with Tink’s 69 and many others. Who remembers Cover Up? I’ve been looking for even images and I can not locate anything. It was a white bottle with camo letters that read “Cover Up”.
Just saw the trailer for Escanaba In Da Moonlight. Will be watching it in tonight’s moonlight!!

P.S. The soap I received probably deteriorated it’s anise properties because it just smelled like scent free soap. Anise was probably the main ingredient that attracted me to this soap. I’m one of the few who prefers the black jellybeans or licorice and Dr Pepper or Coke.

I was at a store here in Columbus, OH (Vance's) and they had a bar soap for sale that had a sent like campfire ash. Thought that was kinda interesting. They had a couple of other scents but that one stands out in my mind the most. It must be a pretty dense soap, somewhat heavy for its size. DANNY

My older brother swears by it, I never used it much. Some deer don't like it. We would just rub some on our clothes.

I remember the anise soap, as well as the two part skunk sent you had to mix. Also used fox urine as a cover scent, caused my jeep to smell like a fox had moved in from the start of hunting season. I have a bottle of Cover Up that I kept for prosperity.

Good memories. A buddy and I were in a sporting goods store back in the early ‘90s and he dropped a bottle of fox urine. Broke on the floor and cleared the store.

There’s a place called the Soap Shed in the mountains of western NC. It’s a husband and wife team that make a huge assortment of soaps. Their anise is one that I use a lot during hunting season

I have used anise scent for fishing. Still do. Used to clean gas scent away before handling live bait. Still available, search under fishing soap/anise scent.
