I just “acquired” a really nice cane break rattler skin, he didn’t care for it though8^). I have it air drying now. It is a darker color. I plan on putting it on some limbs. What color do y’all think I should paint the limbs so it will look the beast? I have black limbs now, should I paint them lighter or keep the. Black? I’ve heard silver paint under the skin. What’s y’all opinion? ><> del

I have had two rattler skinned bows with black limbs. Not sure you can do any better than black.

I like black also, it makes the pattern stand out. Pappy

Black is best, and if the skin isn't long enough, they are one that looks good split down the middle, when they are wide enough.

Ok, y’all talked me into it! Black it will be. Thank you very much for the feed back. It is plenty long enough, it will be going on a takedown. Thanks again y’all. ><> del

I’ve put them over black glass, I’m sure others will say different, but I’d be afraid of gluing skins over a painted surface , I’d think that they may come undone. But that’s just my opinion.

A lighter color will show off the snakes pattern much better than black ,. I use birdseye or curly maple under clear glass . I would paint the limb then poly it over the paint and lightly sand with 80 grit before I glued it .

Depends on the skin. ..but silver- no way.

Keep in mind; The skins are semi transparent….so a light color under a light skin like a praire rattler will be very light and wash out the skin.

Whatever paint you use will give that tint to the skin itself.
