My son got really jealous when I showed him pictures from the 3D course I went to recently. He wants to go too. So there is a local club that has a 3D course shoot once a month. So I'm planning to take him.
Problem is I don't have a bow for him at the moment. He does have a Mathews Genesis he got for his 6th birthday! But I realized the mistake, its too heavy for him. He simply was not able to hold that bow. I was too excited hoping he would love archery so I got him something that he can compete with. But I didn't realized it was 3lbs bare! So it wasn't fun for him to shoot that bow, so he stop trying so he rather go shoot his BB gun. Its completely my fault. I should of research better and the bow was meant more for 4th grader and up.
So I'm glad that he is interested again. Going to start him with a recurve/longbow. I wish I got him a Maddog Archery Youth bow when I got mine.
Anyway, is there a good middle price bow you can recommend? I don't want to go completely cheap fiberglass Amazon special, hopefully under 100. It doesn't have to be a 'grow with you' bow, just something that he can use from 9 to maybe 11. Can always pass it down to his sisters. For a 9 year old, I'm thinking 15-20 lbs at his draw. Thinking of a 54" Samick Polaris or similar.
Thank you!

What Jon said. They have a 50% trade in program if he wants another bow after out growing it.
Three Rivers and Lancaster have youth bows.

Get him a Pearson Pony 20# is plenty for a kid that’s 9. Check out ebay, there’s at least 2 of those there.
My little girl loves her Pearson Maverick (11 lbs) .

Only got 8 years out of it…. ;)
None of the LW sponsors will steer you wrong, though. I have just noticed that there aren’t a great many used Kids’ bows on the market because the nicer ones are keepsakes and the current crop of cheapies are probably not considered worth the effort to sell them off….
FWIW, though…. A lot of us started out with one of those crappy, solid-glass ambidextrous jobs, and the quality of the equipment never dampened our enthusiasm; until they turn about 14 or so, spending the time with you is an even bigger treat than the shooting, but after that at least you can tempt them into spending the time with you by taking them shooting…

I think I remember a takedown bow sold by Lost Nation Archery for a while that was called a Ragim. We bought a few different limbs for it as my kids got a little older. The first set was 14# at 14" draw.. I think. God little bows. My son would terrorize the armadillos and gophers all over our place.

So any youth bow that you purchase will retain at least half of it's value as long as it's not beat to crap and is still shootable.
I buy all that I can get when they come to me.. they are hard to obtain! I have a bunch of 54" youth bows that should be here any time. BigJim

Unless I’ve been sorely misled, Ragim is a pretty major manufacturer based in Italy… kind of the Samick of the UK….
It’s kinda weird that they’re a dot-org, though….

My grandkids started with a Bear Little Bear but by the time they were 10, they had moved into a 62" 30# Browning Spartan. With their short draws, they weren't drawing over 20-25#.
As mentioned before, clubs near you that have monthly 3-D shoots are Mayberry Archers, Heart of Maryland, Baltimore Bowmen.
