I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts are regarding hunting with a white glass bow? Mainly talking about glass on the back. I know some of you will say that it doesn't matter while others will say why take the risk...etc Just curious your thoughts and opinions and if you've harvested any animals, please post pictures with your white bow. Thanks!

I would think that the ”ground game” thing would be more of an impact here, versus those hunting from treestands.

If they're not shiny, then you should be fine. It's movement that freaks them out. I remember John Schulz saying he could probably take a deer while wearing a tuxedo. Don't know that I'd try that. :) Anyway, you can always put some turtle wax on them and let it dry to a haze.

I hunted with one for a few years before I switched hands, ordered a new one with a white belly just recently. I see no negative impacts from a white bow or plaids instead of camo etc. Hunt and play the wind, limit movement. Same as for any hunting.

Except for turkey , I wouldn't worry about a white bow for other game . Shiney bad no matter what color if your in a spot the sun can hit your bow .

Here is a turkey with a white 1958, but if you have a white bow and want to hunt turkey, just put sleeves on. Here is a gobbler with a white bow and I used cloth sleeve. You can see the sleeve in this photo . Takes seconds to put on or take off .

Agree with two4hooking. Nice photos btw.

Scent and movement gets us the fastest. I do mainly plaids but aim to hunt with my Gilly top this year. Being confident in yourself and your set up plus waiting for the best shot, like their head behind something or looking back. I usually wear a black watch to cut down on reflection. Heck, they walk within feet of a parked vehicle all of the time.

I wouldn't hunt with a white bow any sooner than I'd hunt in white clothes... unless everything is covered with snow. THEN it's camo.

White and black are two colors you rarely see in the woods. I avoid both while hunting.

Killed a fox with a bow with white glass on both sides of the limbs.

Really good in the snow!

I have killed a few critters with white arrows. At the time I needed hunting arrows, all the local maker had was white. Didn't bother the deer at all.

Shades of black gray and white are what most critters see in the woods except for a few critters (birds) that see color. So white or black are very much part of their world in their habitat. I wouldn't have a problem with a white limbed bow for things like deer, bear or others.

I've shot game with white glass bows for years. Both on back and belly or just on the belly. All my current bows have white glass and I used full length white arrow shafts also. It's just a thing I do to prove it to myself that shooting game can be done with this perceived handicap

Thinking of going with this whitish glass bow. I am sure the deer will come from afar saying shoot me, shoot me!!!!

I've killed a couple white tails(from a tree) with white glass. I have a 58 Kodiak that is up to bat first this year. We will see!

Put a little mud on it.

yea that doesn't matter at all.

I’ve seen a few pictures of Jack Howard’s kills with his beautiful bows. They had white glass and he was dressed in street clothes as well

thanks so much all. Mostly i figured it didnt matter, as others stated, movement and scent get us the quickest. That being said i'm a bit hesitant to use an all white bow as WHITEtail deer communicate with WHITE tails. However i'm still going to do it because i know i can. AHAH. Thanks!

If with in bow range the sent was tolerated

It’s movement that will make or break it for you now

I have three ASLs with white glass on the belly and either black or green on the back. I've shot and killed two deer and had dozens in bow range without incident, except one time. I was about 22 feet up in my climber in a skinny bois d'arc tree with the sun setting behind me. The sun had that white glass almost glowing, it was so bright. The glare was going up into the trees at least.

A fawn came walking up from behind me with the bow laying in front of me on the upper rails of my climber. The fawn walked up within 10 yards of the bottom of my tree and looked straight up as if she knew I was there. I was not silhouetted, brushed in good, any glare off my bow was angled upward. I blamed that directly on the white glass on the belly of my bow. That's one occurrence out of numerous times I've had deer behind me with a white glass belly on my bow. That said, if I was building or buying a new bow, I'd skip the white glass for something more muted, green, brown, grey.

Yep, the sun, especially the late afternoon sun makes white glow like a beacon. One afternoon I was on the ground about 15 yards from some deer that just came in to me. About 25-30 yards behind me and 15' up a tree was another hunter with a small patch of his white t-shirt visible on his chest. The old doe spotted him in less than 15 seconds, snorted, stomped, and they all ran off. I turned around to see his little patch of white reflecting the sun like a spotlight. No white for me thanks. "Can" it work? Sure. Can it screw things up? Yep.

Why's them deer got all that white hair under their tales anyway? How's come natural predators have evolved to be camo'd in their environments? Scientists are baffled.

From: Sunset Hill

I guess different approaches can be effective for different game animals and different hunting areas. Our local deer, elk, and bear don't have white-tails to flash. No white flashes to signal approaching danger. And there's no trees for me to climb to highlight me against the sun. And we have silvery sage and long dead grass for sun to shine and glare off of. So out here, white glass is fine

"Dark" can show up as quick as "light" in the woods, a lot of times sooner......

Probably depends on where you’re at, and what you’re hunting.

Since I’m likely to be using a white glassed bow this yr I was thinking of ordering the limb covers 3 rivers sells. Looks like they’d work ok. Anyone ever use them?

I use limb covers on Shiney bows. I also have made my own by buying 4 way stretch cloth and having them sewn together . I used olive and black . Olive for hunting on the ground or treestand . Black for turkeys in a blind . Here is a high gloss superkodiak with the olive home made covers .

Hopefully this is upright .olive is a great solid color . As said , you can put them on and off in seconds

Used them on this 76 kodiak magnum on this big doe . The cost after I paid a seamstress to make me several was 8 dollars a set .. including the material .
