Just finished some diy 2D targets.
Started with 4 foam floor tiles from harbor freight. Glued them together, bandsawed them out, and painted them.
Got 3 targets out of a $15 investment of tiles, contact cement, and paint.

Love these and they look great. toying with the idea myself so been researching it for couple weeks. You can buy archery target foam online that I have seen a few made of. like the idea of the harbor freight foam since I visit there often. Doubt mine will look as good as these though.

The foam is somewhat self-healing. The density is very much like some 2-D targets I recently bought at a shoot.
With 4 layers, It stops arrows from my 45lb Bear recurve, with about 12" sticking out the back. I expect when it's gets shot out a bit, I may start to get pass thru's.
The quail is small enough, I won't even anchor it. I'll shoot it with a hay bale behind.
On my next attempt, I may go a bit thicker, maybe 5 or 6 layers, or add a layer of trampoline material, since I have some pieces in the garage.
Anyways, not too bad for $15 investment.

I am not familiar with these foam floor tiles, but I will look into them and great idea. Does the foam stop the arrow or is that what the hay bale is for? Obviously the smaller targets would get tumbled by the impact without a backstop.

It’s a Saber-toothed Rat!!
Nice work. And for $15, you can afford for them to get shot out some. But now I’m trying to recall how I enlarged an image from my phone when I built my bow rack… I think I jury-rigged a projector somehow… that might help the guys who are feeling artistically challenged…. But a guy could always buy a set of NFAA paper animals and keep them as stencils/patterns.
Seems like these would be really great for a fun-shoot; set them out far enough that it would take a while for them to get all shot out in the centers…

4 tiles yields a 22"×22" square a little over 2" thick. From this I can get a larger figure and 2 smaller ones. So that makes 3 targets for $15. These targets Stop an arrow from my 45 pound recurve pretty easily. I shoot from 10, 15 and 20 yd with no problems. I anchor the larger ones but the smaller ones I just leave them free. I only use the hay bale to stop my arrow if I miss the small ones. These may not stand up to heavy usage. Time will tell. But for approximately five dollars a piece I can easily replace the shot out ones

Really like the idea of using the NFAA paper targets for stencils.
Although I appreciate all the compliments about my artistic abilities, I assure you all I'm not artistically inclined. Used Google quite a lot for inspiration.

Here is a simple way to make your outlines. Do like you said and find the clip art on Google, print it, then use carbon paper to trace the outline onto your foam.

Another possibility is a smaller variation of the burlap bag & plastic target. I use these 18"x24" bags and fill them to the size I want. 6 bags for $24 on Amazon, stuffed with plastic bags, and they last a long time if you keep them off the ground. Spray paint and Sharpie whatever small animal you want.
