No idea "officially", but I used it on mine. All bows will handle it.

At yet again the myth that all bows will not handle fast flight gets perpetuated by somehow who hasn't tried it. It is being used on selfbows with no tip reinforcement with great success.

My apologies, Ian. I should have just typed "yes" to your question. Your thread is about to become a sh*t show and that's my fault for opening the door with my comment.

Honest Question: When did the industry stop building bows that were NOT expected to be used with FF??
I recall seeing “bomb-proof tips” listed as an (added cost) option on the Bighorn website/order form at one point, but I can’t fathom why anyone would have built a bow in the current century and NOT made it FF capable. Big-Factory youth models excepted, most likely, but who would order a “custom” bow that won’t shoot a low- stretch string safely??
I’m talking about laminated, of course, but it appears that some self-bow builders have figured it out as well. Makes sense. I guess I wouldn’t shoot FF from a self-bow without the bowyer’s blessing, but nobody who stands behind his work is going to set himself up to be responsible for a bunch of warranty replacement claims…

I ask Brandon Stahl ( owner and bowyer of Rose Oak Creations ) awhile back what he thought and this is what he said. "Using FF on vintage bows is definitely a personal choice. I know that a lot of guys are doing it, but I don't think it's wise in some cases because FF material does put more stress on a bow, and some older bows aren't constructed properly to handle that extra stress. Luckily, the majority of vintage bows are somewhat plentiful, and are really not that valuable compared to some things, so if guys mess them up, it's probably not going to be the end of the world. However, if a vintage bow is rare, worth more than $200, or just has sentimental value, I wouldn't put a FF string on it. But that's just me. To each his own."
Best regards, Brandon Stahl

“ why don’t you ask Mike Fedora about FF…”
I think Nemo covered it pretty well with the note from Brandon; sounds like newer bows should be expected to take the strain and older bows are (or might be) a crapshoot, so when in doubt, ask the bowyer who built it. Which is pretty much where I started. So accuse me of succumbing to Confirmation Bias if you want, but basically I’ll tell you what I’ve always told my wife, which is that seeing as we don’t disagree, I’m not inclined to argue with you about it.

It is ridiculous and obviously untrue that ALL bow will not handle fast flight strings. It is cool if you do not want to use them, but your statement is demonstrably false.

I put a D97 string on my vintage Bear Super Grizzly, I bought the bow new old stock, with a price tag from the 1970s. That bow has no clue what kind of string it needs, the D97 string makes it super duper!

Makes me wonder how much venom might have been contained had the earlier post read “not all bows will”, rather than “all bows will not”… But God Forbid anyone should take someone’s meaning as intended, rather than raising a ruckus….

If memory serves me right, it was somewhere around 2000-2005 when many (not all) Bowyers really started using Micarta to reinforce the limb tips on their bows for High Performance String use. Those that didn't, wouldn't Warranty their bows if a High Performance String was used on their bows and something happen. Just what I remember. DANNY

I use bone tip overlays on self bows, and micarta on glass bows, or at least pad the loops. Just plain wood tips from birch, and walnut will not hold up for long with FF string.I know this from experience.

Yeah, that checks out, far as I’m concerned. Maybe sooner. I’m gonna guess the change happened pretty quickly - at least once people saw the up-side to low-stretch - because why wouldn’t it?
