Making some tip overlays from exotic woods I received in a giveaway. Not sure what they are but I glued these three pieces together.

Did some rough shaping on my bench grinder and then glued em on.
I’ll have to wait until the glue cures before I can do more with them

Very awesome guys. Love seeing these things. Very new to selfbow making but this is my first one that's stayed together. Got about 150 arrows threw it now and still together so far. Fingers crossed. Is hand shock normal thing on these things?

You should be able to keep hand shock to a minimum. We would need to see a full draw picture to possibly offer any suggestions. What is your bow length, and your brace height? And what kind of arrow are you shooting, wood, carbon, aluminum? How heavy of an arrow are you shooting?

It took me a while to realize how thin my tips could be. My first few attempts were thumpers in the hand. Tillered right with properly thinned, light weight tips, selfbows can be very dead in the hand and very quiet.

I don’t shoot carbon or aluminum arrows with my selfbows. Nothing wrong with it at all, but it doesn’t seem right to me. Wood arrows go with selfbows like peanut butter and jelly.

Full draw looks pretty good Nathan.
How long is your handle area? Fades include.
I like it but it might help to give it another inch for the hand shock. Looks like you have it working pretty good right out of the fades too, but it doesn’t look like it’s to much. Might contribute slightly too.
You might be surprised how much you can reduce tips. That might help too.
All in all though I think you did a very nice job and I think you have a shooter there.
Bjrogg
Finished up my tips. Need to do a little sanding yet, but I think they should look nice with some finish on them.

Yes looks very nice. My next one ill do tips like yours there. Reducing tips would probably be good idea. Probably all the extra weight getting thrown forward not helping hand shock. It shoots great but can't get it to bare shaft for nothing. Keeps throwing them tail right. But fletched they shoot ok. Any ideas out there??

It’s certainly not the prettiest full draw ever. But this one has curves and kinks from one end to the other.
One for arrow pass that’s almost center shoot.

Shooting tail right bare shaft is to stiff yet if I’m not mistaken. Guessing you tried adding point weight ?

Nice tips runner. And nice recurve shape too. That’s very close to what my recurve caul shape is.
Thanks Greg. I put the working area on my “straightening “ caul to tame it down just a little and give a bit of reflex. Then I put a bit more reflex in the tips just by hand. Both tips have some stuff going on right where there should be a nice recurve but it kinda works. The full draw looks a little stiff in the outers but they’re working. The reflex just makes them look like they aren’t.
Just put the first coat of tru oil on. She’s definitely going to be a looker

Here are a few in my shop, I have been making static recurves lately.

Nice to see the knowledge passed along and in good hands.
Good thread
Here’s one I finished putting tru oil on.
It’s actually from a Osage plank that I split a stave out of and chased a ring.
You could say it’s straight as a board. It’s actually as straight as the grain inside the board.
