I Have a sinew backed hickory bow curing still have a week until I retiller it. After it’s been re tillered and shot in how long should I wait to seal it( poly over tung oil)?I know it will cure over a year but can I get away with sealing it early?

You can seal it as soon as its dry.

I don't retiller it for 30 days (so don't finish)it's very humid here and I don't have a hot box and don't want to use my bow oven.Lots of opinions

Will it continue to cure after finish is applied?

You mean dry? I'd think a good finish would seal in moisture.

Yah I was under the impression that it takes up to a year to “cure”, at least that’s what I read on a different forum a while back. I’ve only been at this bow makin stuff for a year so I got a lot of questions, I may be misunderstanding something I read between drying and curing

A finish does not stop curing or drying.

Curing in sinew backing is thought to be more of a polymerization of the glue. A glue matrix can cure for a long time while it is still "active" A lot of people have experimented with short and long times of curing.

I gotcha now, sorry ab that. Thanks again for the knowledge.

Where can I find out more about the curing process?

You won't find anything except people claiming that longer is better. Sometimes much longer.

The making of bows is likely the only scenario where you are likely to find anything regarding longer cure time of hide glue.

I think in every other scenario it is just done when "dry".
